History in the Making: India’s First Earthen 3D Printing Workshop | Bhoo’26: Festval of earth architecture - 28,29 march 2026

Trivandrum witnessed a landmark moment in sustainable construction history at Bhoo’26 – Festival of Earth Architecture, where Urvi Foundation successfully organized India’s first-ever workshop on 3D printing using earth.

Hosted at Down to Earth Village, the two-day workshop brought together leading minds in architecture and sustainability. The event featured an engaging panel discussion with eminent architects including Padma Shri G. Shankar, Chitra Vishwanath, and Satyaprakash Varanasi, who shared insights on the future of climate-responsive architecture.

Why This Matters

Today, 3D printing in construction is largely dependent on concrete. By introducing locally sourced earth into this technology, we unlock a future that is:
• Low-energy and eco-friendly
• Material-efficient and regionally adaptable
• Thermally comfortable
• Faster to build
• Less dependent on labor-intensive processes
• Stone free solution

At a time when the construction sector faces resource scarcity and energy challenges, this innovation offers a viable and scalable alternative.

A Solution for Kerala and Beyond

In a state like Kerala, where heavy monsoons limit construction timelines, rapid-build technologies like earthen 3D printing can transform both tourism infrastructure and commercial development.

More importantly, in regions prone to recurring natural disasters, this technology has the potential to enable quick, efficient, and sustainable rehabilitation housing.

Workshop Highlights
• Hands on sessions on materials by Er. Muhammed Yasir and session on design parameters by Ar. Rohith
• Exhibition on URVI’s Stone-Free Movement
• Showcase of innovative earth-based construction products
• Participation from students and professionals across India

The event was chaired by Ar. Hasan Naseef founder of URVI Foundation and panel discussion curated by Ar.Afnan & Ar.Sheharban founders of storey scapes.

The event was supported by:
• Title Partner: NASA India
• Knowledge Partner: Vellore Institute of Technology
• Event Partners: Co-Earth & Storyscapes

Looking Ahead

This initiative marks the beginning of a new paradigm in construction where technology meets tradition, and innovation aligns with nature.

The future of building is not just faster.
It is smarter, local, and deeply sustainable.

Bhoo’26 – Festival of Earth Architecture

Bhoo’26 marks a significant milestone for the Urvi Foundation. It is the realization of a dream envisioned over a decade ago, brought to life through the unwavering determination of Team Urvi. This is a major chapter in our journey toward fulfilling a larger purpose to offer protection, care, and consciousness not just to humanity, but to the Earth itself, beyond the boundaries of conventional thinking.

In a world where many run endlessly without purpose, and where corporate mindsets seek to claim and consume everything in sight, we stand for something different. We are a collective striving to build a way of life rooted in peace, mindful living, and the spirit of sharing with others.

Our journey has been marked by defining milestones:
• First Milestone – The Kerala Floods of 2018
A time when the Earth itself protested. It was during this crisis that we strongly advocated for environmentally conscious practices and began shaping the foundations of the Stone-Free Movement.
• Second Milestone – The Pandemic of 2022
A period that redefined human existence. We initiated the Down to Earth Village, a prototype for less urbanize, create smart village campaign.

Today, the fear of global conflict casts a shadow across continents. The reality is becoming increasingly clear, self-reliance is no longer a choice, but a necessity. Systems are collapsing; dependence is becoming uncertain. Energy blockades, inflation, and unemployment are growing concerns. In such times, the only sustainable solution is to build self-sufficient communities.

It is in this context that the first edition of the Annual Earth Architecture Festival was held at the Down to Earth Village.

The event, conducted on March 28th and 29th, brought together some of the finest minds in the field architects and professionals from more than ten states, globally respected legends whose voices the world listens to, and the vibrant young generation of students who represent the future.

A historic highlight of Bhoo’26 was India’s first 3D printed construction using earth.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that an entire village came together with unity, dedication, and collective effort to make this event a success. That spirit of community is what Bhoo’26 will always stand for.

We remain deeply grateful to everyone who prayed for this, worked for this, and stood with us in making this vision a reality.
