IEEE Kerala Section

IEEE Kerala Section Official page of IEEE Kerala Section www.ieeekerala.org. From the outset, IEEE Kerala Section has been noted for its vibrant activities.

IEEE activities in Kerala were formally initiated on 17 February 1975 as a subsection under the then India section. Kerala subsection became part of the Bangalore Section in 1976 upon formation of India Council, and later, it became a full Section in 1983. Several innovations from IEEE Kerala Section in organizing activities for students as well as professionals were appreciated and replicated by

the global IEEE community. Winner of Region-10 (Asia Pacific) Outstanding Large Section Award in 2004 and 2009, IEEE Kerala Section has been organizing high quality, high impact technical events including several international conferences in the recent past. Two areas that Kerala Section has been especially noted are Student Activities and Humanitarian Activities. Kerala Section’s interventions in the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami was widely noticed within IEEE circles, and was perhaps a factor in IEEE adopting the new tagline “Advancing Technology for Humanity” in 2009. IEEE Kerala Section maintains active volunteerism through its student activities board, chapters and affinity groups as listed below:
- Computer Society Chapter
- Communication Society Chapter
- Joint Chapter on Industry Applications & Industrial Electronics Societies
- Power Engineering Society Chapter
- Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT) Chapter
- Women in Engineering (WiE) Affinity Group
- Graduates of Last Decade (GOLD) Affinity Group
- Special Interest Group In Humanitarian Technologies (SIGHT)

Local special interest groups like PIE (Promotion of Innovation and Entrepreneurship) and student activities group like LINK, work effectively in bridging the gap between academia and industry in evolving better engineers for tomorrow. IEEE Kerala Section has been also notable in promoting entrepreneurship among women, both professional and student, through its WiE program set up for this purpose.
