Three years back, when Chandu joined CADRRE’s Employability Training Program for autistic adults, he was a non-compliant and resistant young man. He always wanted to do things on his own terms. Following rules and instructions was never his strong suit. He was never a people person and working with any team seemed far from easy. Abhilash, likewise, albeit being a cheerful person, also seemed to be the most sensitive man in any room. He couldn’t hold his tears in at even the slightest tone change. Making sense of everyday conversations with neurotypicals often left him overwhelmed.
Fast forward three years… Chandu and Abhilash are working as Quality Checking Trainees at My Designation’s warehouse in Trivandrum. Last week, they received their first salaries after their first month at a job. Their first taste of employment, their first taste of getting paid. We can’t be prouder of you.
MyDesignation, what you have offered Chandu and Abhilash is not just a job; it is an end to the endless knocks on doors in search of opportunities, it is a statement to the world that autism does not prevent anyone from succeeding, it is a beacon of hope for an invisible majority and their families. Thank you so much for what you have done for inclusion!
