Temple that finds a reference in a historical scripture relating to Kandiyur Divya Desam is located in a serene location about 10kms North of Thanjavur and 2kms South of Thiruvayaru. The temple of Lord Srinivasa Perumal in Kalyanapuram which is believed to be the Abhimana Sthalam of Thirukandiyur Harasaabha Vimochana Perumal, onethat dates back 1000 years or so. Reference to this temple can easily
found in the verse relating to Kandiyur Divya Desam which is about 2 kms South of Kalyanapuram. This place was once referred to as the Srinivasa Kshetram.

The principal deity, Lord Srinivasa is said to have been brought from Thirumala and installed hundreds of years ago. Hence the diety in Kalyanapuram is equally powerful as Lord Srinivasa of Thirumala. So, devotees unable to go to Tirumala to offer their prayers often visit this temple. Great yathis like Srirangam Srimad Andavan and Srimad Azhagiyasingar of Ahobila Mutt have visited this temple frequently and offered Mangala Sasanams to Srinivasa Perumal and Alamel Mangai Thaayar. Saint Thiyagaraja is said to have offered prayers at this temple during his unchavriti visits to the village. Festivals are held throughout the year in this temple .They include Vasanthothsavam and Akshayathrithiyai in the Tamil month of Chithrai, Visakam festival in Vaikasi, Jeishtabhishekam in Aani, Aadipuram festival, Thayar uthsavam in Aavani, Pavithrothsavam, Desikar and Navarathiri uthsavam in Purattasi, Kaisika Ekaadesi festival, Lakshadeepam in Karthigai, Pagalpathu, Raappathu uthsavams in Margazhi, Laksharchana and Thirukalyanothsavam in Thai, Magam festival in Masi and Bhramothsavam in Panguni. There are separate sannadhis for the Lord Srinivasa, his consort Alarmel Mangai Thaayaar, Sri Chakrathalwar, Sri Hanuman,Sri Andal and Alwars. Special Poojas are offered to Sri Anjaneyar, who is also an important deity of this temple. The deity fulfils the wishes of those devotees who pray sincerely to the Lord and perform a Garuda Seva. Therefore, on almost all days, except the festival days, Lord Srinivasa and His Consort Alarmelmangai give darshan to devotees on Garuda Vahana
