📸 : Leadership in the Classroom

Remember that empowering session we had with Dr. Vijayam Ravi? We’re throwing it back to Tuesday Webinar Series - 15, where we explored the transformative topic: The Art and Science of Leadership in the Classroom! 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫

What We Learned:

Lead by Example: A teacher is a leader all day. Integrity and being a consistent role model are non-negotiable!

Empowerment is Key: Leadership is the Art and Science of Empowerment. If we empower our staff, they empower our students, who then become the school's strongest advocates.

Art vs. Science: Leadership is Science (structured skills we can develop) and Art (the unique, compassionate way we implement those skills).

Foster Ownership: Help students find their voice and take ownership of their learning journey. Success as a leader is about growing others!

Let's continue to make learning an engaging and powerful experience!

🎨

We're taking a look back at the insightful 14th session of the CRDE Tuesday Webinar Series with the incredible Ms. Arpita Ghosh on "Using Expressive Arts as a Teaching Tool."

In an age of distraction and anxiety, Ms. Ghosh showed us how to re-engage students and unlock their full potential!

Key Takeaways for Every Educator:

Combat Distraction with Creativity: As technology threatens to make students "devoid of emotions," expressive arts are essential for tapping into their creative selves.

The 'Why': Expressive arts make learning fun-filled and experiential [15:29:00], boost self-esteem and confidence, and ensure teaching is student-centric.

Core Techniques You Can Use Today:

Creative Visualization: Helps students imagine, focus, and use all five senses, perfect for subjects like History or Geography.

Movement/Dance: Breaks classroom monotony, aids interpersonal skills, and helps students shed inhibitions.

Art of Storytelling: Use voice modulation techniques (like the "flute, trumpet, and saxophone" exercise) to enhance communication skills.

Music/Parody: Turn dull concepts into catchy melodies or wraps to make information stick (like a jingle!).

Teacher Mindset: Don't be afraid to think out of the box! Be bold and courageous in implementing new methods—the positive impact on students will make others follow.

Let's continue to make learning an engaging and powerful experience!

Mastering Student Attention: Practical Tips for Educators

Throwing it back to CRDE's insightful Tuesday Webinar Series - 13 from August 2022!

This session features Professor Vinod Deshpande sharing practical, experience-based strategies for educators on how to combat shrinking attention spans and truly sustain student engagement in the classroom. He emphasizes that the goal is not how much you teach, but how you make the subject interesting and palatable.

Key Takeaways from the Webinar:
Start with a Challenge: Create immediate interest by challenging students' thinking with a hypothetical situation or a paradox, which acts like "anesthesia before operation" to hook them in.

Connect to Real Life: Use students' own experiences or doubts, such as why it's hard to run on a beach, to introduce a concept like friction and make the learning relatable.

Boost Energy Mid-Session: Use "energy boosters" like a quick recap, a question, or a simple physical activity (e.g., clapping, greeting a neighbor) to re-energize the class when attention starts to wane.

Integrate Games: Use structured games to facilitate learning and recollection. Examples include the "River Name" game (using Yes/No questions to test geography) or asking students to take turns naming scientists or formulas.

Build Capacity and Values: Share study skills (e.g., note-taking, memorization) and use anecdotes to impart values. When students respect and love the teacher, they are more likely to engage with and love the subject.

⏪ to our impactful 12th Tuesday Webinar Series!

We hosted educational innovator Dr. Pramila Kudva for a deep dive into Learning Enhancement of Students and the crucial strategies needed to overcome learning loss and the post-pandemic achievement gap.

The session reminded us that a truly effective teacher acts as a supportive mentor, recognizing that "one size doesn't fit all". The core solution to fostering independent learners is the strategic use of Scaffolding.

Key Takeaways from the Webinar

Dr. Kudva emphasized a philosophy that moves beyond simply filling a vessel to kindling a flame of curiosity :

Prioritize Curiosity: Interest and curiosity are the "force within the hungry mind" that activate long-term memory. A lesson must be meaningful and interesting for retention to be better.

Scaffolding in Action: Implement the "I Do, We Do, You Do" model. First, the instructor demonstrates, then students practice with guidance, and finally, they work independently.

The Power of Meaning: Make learning concrete! Use real-world examples and hands-on activities, like the vertical garden project discussed, to ensure concepts are deeply understood and retained.

Effective Feedback: Always remember: "Feedback is a way forward." Use feedback as a constructive tool to guide continuous improvement, not just to critique performance.

Visit to Prospect North Primary School, South Australia

Indian educators who embarked on their journey of exploration to Australia under the CRDE banner visited Prospect North Primary School, a vibrant public school in South Australia. The warm welcome extended by Mr. Russell Barwell, Principal, and Ms. Judy, Deputy Principal, truly touched everyone’s hearts.

The school stands out for its commitment to personalized and inquiry-based learning, emphasizing social and emotional wellbeing through programs like Play is the Way and Circle Time. Prospect North also nurtures students’ creativity and innovation through STEM projects driven by design thinking, alongside rich opportunities in visual arts and PNTV—a student-led media program that produces weekly content showcasing school life and student voices.

The visit proved to be an inspiring and insightful experience for all participating educators, who appreciated the school’s holistic and forward-thinking pedagogical approach.
"It was heartening to witness a model where students take ownership of their learning journey—something we aspire to strengthen within our own schools in India", expressed Mrs Deepa Desai, secretary CRDE.

📢 Unpacking "Education for All": Key Insights from CRDE's Webinar with Nudrat Azam!

In a powerful, interactive session, Nudrat Azam (Head of Inclusion, Raffles World Academy, Dubai) challenged educators to shift their mindset from traditional teaching to true inclusion, highlighting the global gap and the need for systemic change.

Here are the top takeaways on building an equitable learning environment:

Equity Over Equality: Inclusion is fundamentally about equity —providing every student with the unique support they need to succeed—not merely treating everyone the same.

Inclusion is a Mandate: In places like the UAE, the system operates with zero tolerance for denying admission to students of determination (SODs). Regular schools must adapt; the learner doesn't adapt to the system..

A Broad Definition: Inclusion extends far beyond special needs. It encompasses Students of Determination (SOD), Gifted & Talented students, and English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners.

The Mindset Shift: Every educator must embrace the role of a "Teacher of Inclusion" .This requires top-down commitment, teacher capacity building, and a whole-stakeholder approach (including parents in the process).

Learner-Centered Classrooms: Education must shift from teacher-centered to learner-centered. Strategies like differentiation, scaffolding, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) are essential to meet mixed-ability needs .

Change starts now! Watch the full webinar for a deeper dive into policy, pedagogy, and overcoming systemic challenges in inclusion.

The Centre of Resource Development for Educators (CRDE), along with a delegation of school principals from India, was invited to participate in the Ed-Summit 2025, organised by International Education Services, Department for Education, and held in South Australia in October 2025.
The summit focused on fostering an understanding of the Australian public schools’ approach to learning, promoting collaborative exchange and shared educational practices between educators from India and Australia.

The visit to Charles Campbell College, Campbell Road, proved to be both informative and enriching.
Dr. Suresh Nair, President of CRDE, expressed his pleasure at being introduced to Mr. Kevin O’Neil, the Principal of the college.
The college is known for its focus on student agency and innovative teaching practices.
Educators were particularly impressed by the 'Sprint session' which offered valuable insights into peer learning and constructive feedback mechanism.
They were equally impressed by the kitchen garden programme 'lettuce to literature' which beautifully integrates sustainability and literacy.

to an incredibly insightful session! 🕰️

We're rewinding to our 10th Tuesday Webinar with the brilliant Mrs. Nalini Kai, who dove deep into "How to plan our lesson smartly in line with NEP 2020."

The session was a powerful guide for every educator on the most-talked-about shifts in the National Education Policy.

🔑 Key Takeaway:

The teacher's role has fundamentally changed from a knowledge-imparter to a Facilitator. Lesson plans must transition from rigid schedules to flexible frameworks that prioritize:

Experiential Learning: Moving away from rote memorization.

Collaborative Learning: Encouraging 90% knowledge retention by having students teach others.

Integrated Subjects: Connecting different topics to achieve a holistic 360-degree assessment.
