Introduction of ASKPC .

Being the aborigines of Kashmir, Pandits have built up the socio-cultural fabric of the valley over the centuries and due to their inherent inclination towards spiritualism, have been extremely peace loving & have advocated policy of mutual co-existence with other communities. This progressive community has always sensed the demands of the changing socio-political environment and adapted itself accordingly, yet retaining its cultural & religious beliefs & traditions and remaining steadfast to its roots. It was due to the flexible & adaptive nature of this community that made it to accept education, among both men & women, opening up the vast vistas of knowledge. Over the centuries the enlightened community forayed into spiritualism, philosophy, astrology, history, science, medicine and even mastered Persian, Urdu and English to help the rulers of the day in administration& connecting with the general masses. Due to their broadmindedness Kashmiri Pandits spread knowledge & imparted Education among Kashmiri masses without any religious bias, earning respect & admiration from all communities.

However, the community because of its non-violent beliefs has suffered through the centuries from some fringe savage elements of the Kashmiri society. One such incident happened during 1931 when members of Muslim Conference attacked Pandits, looting & burning their houses. It was a sequel to the atrocities being committed on Kashmiri Pandits that Pandit Hargopal Koul, an able & bold leader better known as Sher-e-Kashmir, launched Roti Movementunder the aegis of Sanatam Dharam Yuvak Sabha which was rechristened as All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference. ASKPC at that time immediately confronted the Muslim Conference and forced it to adopt a secular ideology, changing its name to National Conference under the leadership of late Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah.Since then ASKPC has been at the forefront, safeguarding the socio-cultural interests &socio-political identity of the harassed miniscule minority community in the state.
