RARE Bombay Blood Unit TRANSFERRED from Chennai Saveetha Medical College Thenj Lingammal Hospital on 3/03/2026 Via Kanyakumari Exp Upon EMERGENCY to Save a LIFE & also to Ensure Unit which is getting Expired on 6th Mar 2026 to get Utilized before getting DISCARDED.

hh, or the , is a RARE blood type. This blood phenotype was first discovered in Bombay by Dr. Y. M. Bhende in 1952. It is mostly found in the Indian sub-continent (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan) and parts of the Middle East such as Iran

All around the globe, the instance of a human having a ‘hh’ blood type is one in four million. The incidence is higher in South Asia. While in India, one in 7,600 to 10,000 are born with this type.

What needs to be done when we come across a Patient with Such Rare Blood Group

👉🏼First thing to be done, FAMILY SCREENING
👉🏼 Secondly, Check Availability of Donated Units across all Licensed Blood Banks
👉🏼Finally, If You come across Availability of Units, Organise for Transfer

RePacked & Sent Unit Safely to Theni Vikram Blood Centre,
Post Screening Unit has been given for Transfusion & done successfully.
