Gangtok, September 7, 2026: An executive delegation of the Sikkim Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Cell (SEED Cell), led by its President Dr. Raj Lama, met Shri Arun Kumar Upreti, Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development and Cooperation, Government of Sikkim, and Advisor SEED Cell on Monday.

The meeting focused on the proposed Udyami Bharosa Sammelan 2026, including its objectives, preparations, and proposed activities. The delegation also presented a report on the recently conducted Sikkim RISE event, highlighting its key achievements and outcomes.
The SEED Cell further briefed the Minister on its ongoing programmes and initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, empowering youth, supporting local entrepreneurs, and creating awareness of various government schemes and opportunities.

The meeting also discussed strengthening coordination and collaboration with the concerned departments to promote entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood opportunities across Sikkim. The SEED Cell reaffirmed its commitment to its vision of “One Family, One Entrepreneur.”

SEED Cell Organises One-Day Training Programme on the Uses of AI Tools

Gangtok, Sikkim: The SEED Cell organised a One-Day Training Programme on the Uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools) aimed at creating awareness and enhancing the practical understanding of AI technologies among professionals, entrepreneurs and members of the business community.

The programme was attended by Dr. Raj Lama, President, SEED Cell; Shri Mahesh Dawari, Secretary (Finance), SEED Cell; Shri Tashi Ongdup Lepcha, Organisation Secretary, SEED Cell, along with other executive members and representatives of the SEED Cell. Participants from various business firms and enterprises also took part in the training programme.

The session was led by Shri Ajitabh Dutta, an expert in Artificial Intelligence (AI), MSME and Growth Strategies, who served as the faculty guest for the programme. He provided participants with an overview of the evolving AI landscape and demonstrated the practical applications of various AI tools in professional and business environments.

The initiative reflects the SEED Cell’s continued efforts towards capacity building, technology adoption and strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Sikkim, with a focus on equipping businesses and professionals with knowledge and tools relevant to the evolving digital economy.

MSME Acceleration Programme

SEED Cell, in collaboration with the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, successfully organised the MSME Acceleration Programme at the Conference Hall, Commerce & Industries Department, on 3rd September 2026. The programme aimed to create awareness among entrepreneurs and MSMEs about business growth opportunities, government support, financial assistance and credit facilities available for the development and expansion of enterprises.

The programme commenced with the offering of Khadas and bouquets by Shri Tashi Ongdup Lepcha, Organising Secretary, SEED Cell, to the distinguished dignitaries. The programme was graced by the presence of Ms. Karma D. Youtso, Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department, Shri M. Ravikumar, IFS, Director, MSME, C&I Department, Dr. Raj Lama, President, SEED Cell, Shri Rewaj Chettri, OSD to HCM cm State Coordinator, SEED Cell, Mrs. Champa Sharma, Joint Secretary, C&I Department, Shri Ajitabh Dutta, MSME Expert, Shri Prasun Banerjee, Chief Manager, SME Credit, State Bank of India, and Dr. Rahul Kamble, Assistant Director, MSME-DFO, Gangtok.

The programme also witnessed the presence of General Managers and Inspectors from the District Industries Centres (DICs) of all districts, along with District Coordinators and Joint Coordinators of SEED Cell. Their presence reflected the collective efforts towards strengthening the MSME ecosystem and promoting entrepreneurship across the state.The programme witnessed active participation from entrepreneurs and MSMEs across the state.

The programme served as a valuable platform for MSMEs, entrepreneurs and stakeholders to gain greater awareness of business development opportunities, government support, financial assistance and access to credit, contributing towards strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem and promoting sustainable economic growth in Sikkim.

SEED CELL Felicitates Shri Ajiitabh Dutta

On 1st September 2026, SEED CELL felicitated Shri Ajiitabh Dutta, an expert in MSME & Growth Strategies. The interaction was attended by Dr. Raj Lama, President, SEED CELL; Shri Rewaj Chettri, OSD to Hon’ble Chief Minister & Chief Coordinator, SEED CELL, along with District Coordinators and other core resource persons.

The session focused on key areas for the development and growth of MSMEs and Start-ups in Sikkim, including innovation, market opportunities, finance and technology.

Continuing its efforts towards technology-driven entrepreneurship, SEED CELL is organising its first-ever AI Training Programme on 4th September 2026 at the SEED CELL Office, Metro Point, Tadong, Gangtok, focusing on the practical use of AI tools for business.

GI Tag Consultation Meeting with Ethnic Communities of Sikkim

A Geographical Indication (GI) Tag Consultation Meeting with representatives of Sikkim’s ethnic communities was held at the SEED Cell Head Office, Gangtok, led by Shri Dipen S***a, OSD, Commerce & Industries Department and General Secretary, SEED Cell.

The consultation saw the active participation of representatives from each of the Rai, Tamang, S***a, Bhutia and Sherpa communities, bringing together representatives from various association. Their participation provided valuable community-level perspectives on traditional products, indigenous practices, crafts and cultural assets that hold unique geographical and cultural significance.

Representatives from the Rai community through AKRS, the S***a community through SYSS, the Tamang community through STBA and associated representatives, the Sherpa community through DSA, and the Bhutia community through ASBA participated in the consultation. Their collective inputs contributed towards identifying products with potential for GI registration and understanding their traditional origins, distinctive characteristics, production practices and cultural significance.

Discussions further focused on the benefits of GI registration, including protection of traditional knowledge, preservation of cultural heritage, enhanced market recognition and creation of greater economic opportunities for local communities. The importance of community participation, collective ownership and proper documentation was also emphasised.

The consultation reaffirmed SEED Cell’s commitment to preserving Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage and strengthening community-led efforts towards GI recognition and protection of the state’s unique traditional products.
