In a country with 28 states, over 600 districts, and more than 350 million children, it is a monumental task to ensure that every child is literate – a task that the government cannot accomplish alone.This thought gave birth to Pratham Education Foundation in 1994 with the aim of providing pre-school education to children in the slums of Mumbai city. Since then, the organization has grown to becom

e India’s largest non-governmental organization working to provide education to the underprivileged children of India. Today, it is reaching out to three million children annually in rural and urban areas across 19 states of the country. To make its programmes sustainable and self-propelled in the long run, Pratham works closely with the school systems and the communities involved. Thousands of volunteers, mainly women, have been trained to Pratham’s initiatives to the grassroots.

Pratham Education Foundation has been awarded the Best Civil Society Award by the Asian Centre for Corporate Governance & Sustainability. The honour was presented to Banmali Agrawala, Chairman of PEF Board, Farida Lambay, Co-founder, Rukmini Banerji, CEO and Meenakshi Ramesh, CEO Designate, at the Asia Business Responsibility Summit – Silver Jubilee Edition in Mumbai by Paul Polman, former Global CEO of Unilever and Co-Founder of IMAGINE, UK.

The Best Civil Society Award recognises organisations that uphold strong values, social responsibility, and a long-term commitment to society. It honours efforts that create positive and lasting change in communities.

Saturday Special – Role Play 🎭📚
Learning comes alive at Hamara Gaon Learning Camps!
For our Grade 3–5 children, Saturdays are all about Role Play based on the stories they read throughout the week. In small groups, children:
✍️ Write their own dialogues
🤝 Work collaboratively in teams
🎨 Use creative ideas to make their role plays engaging and meaningful
🎭 Perform with confidence, expressing characters and emotions beautifully
This joyful activity not only strengthens reading comprehension but also builds communication skills, creativity, teamwork, and self-confidence.

Pratham received the Chaudhary Charan Singh Seva Ratna Puraskar 2025 by the KISAN TRUST. The award was presented to Rukmini Banerji, CEO, Pratham Education Foundation, in the presence of Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister of State for Education and Skill Development Jayant Chaudhary at a ceremony in New Delhi.

The Seva Ratna award celebrates the spirit of selfless service by honouring individuals and organisations dedicated to the welfare, equality, and upliftment of society. It acknowledges those whose efforts have brought transformative change to marginalised communities and advanced social empowerment.

This recognition acknowledges Pratham's sustained efforts to strengthen children's learning across India and supporting women and youth with educational and employment opportunities.

Hamara Gaon State Level Training 🌿

The ongoing 10-day Hamara Gaon State Level Training focuses on strengthening community engagement, enhancing facilitation skills, and planning effective learning camps.
Team Leaders and Community Instructor Mobilizers are actively participating under the guidance of Program Head, MME, SCTAs, HR/Accountant and EFE, aiming to build stronger connections with Mother Groups, Children’s Clubs, Volunteers, and other stakeholders.

The training focused on:
📘 Strengthening community engagement
👩‍🏫 People and Policies
👩‍🏫 Enhancing facilitation skills
🏫 Planning effective learning camps
🌍 Building stronger connections with mothers’ groups and children’s clubs and other stakeholders.
