The Uttar Pradesh government has recently advertised over 7,000 Community Health Officer (CHO) positions for nursing candidates. However, it's ironic that, in Jammu and Kashmir, the number of people pursuing nursing is more than three times that of Uttar Pradesh, despite there being no significant recruitment drive in the past six years.

"It is truly unfortunate that 35 students have been terminated by their college simply for protesting for their rights. What’s even more concerning is the situation surrounding nursing education in Jammu and Kashmir. With nearly 10,000 seats in BSc Nursing and GNM courses, plus over 4,000 seats through the PMSSS scholarship, we have to question the need for students to go outside the state for studies. Are 14,000+ seats not enough, especially when there hasn't been a permanent job notification in the last five years?

Moreover, it's disheartening to see students from Kashmir going outside the state for education, only to return as consultants promoting admissions in various colleges. Nursing has, unfortunately, become a manufacturing industry—producing professionals without adequate job opportunities and often without the respect the profession deserves. Perhaps it's time to reconsider alternative paths, such as BUMS or BAMS, where at least one would earn the title of a doctor and possibly more respect."
