Ayurveda conceptualises a digestive 'fire' (Agni) that is responsible for digestion. As per Aṣṭāṅgahṛdaya, a weakness or dullness in the digestive fire results in all kinds of ailments. Weakness in the digestive fire is usually interpreted as dyspepsia or indigestion. It could also mean anorexia or loss of appetite. While not all diseases are caused by a 'weakness in the digestive fire', a large number do, and taking care of the digestive system can go a long way.
