24/02/2023: A joint survey with the District Collector (Gangtok District) Shri Tushar G Nikhare, IAS, WRD officers, Officers from Madhya Bharti Power Corporation and members of Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti led by President, Krishna Chettri along with ward panchayat Deepa Chettri was held at Ranikhola Walkway at Shantinagar today inspecting the wall on which the walkway is built which had detoriated at certain points and needed immediate repair work. Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti had underlined the urgency of repair work of the wall along Ranikhola walkway last month through a letter to the DC and was also represented by President, Krishna Chettri at the DC Office last month who highlighted the importance of immediate repair to avoid any mishaps in future.
The inspection was done thoroughly and measurement has been taken and WRD Department along with Madhya Bharti Power Corporation is directed to work on it before the rainy season. Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti and residents of Shantinagar would like to thank the District Collector for his immense support and help in the said matter through this press release. The DC appreciated the work of SGSS in bringing to knowledge about this important repair work. SGSS also requests MBPCL company and WRD Department to kindly help in repairing the walls in an urgent basis.

15.02.23: At the recently held Gram Sabha under Chisopani GPU, Krishna Chettri, President of the Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti, thanked and congratulated Superintendent Engineer and the Divisional Engineer of the Power Department of Toppakhani Circle, Singtam, for putting up more than 100 street lights along the Pipal Dara until the Fruit Preservatory Factory.

Chettri, who was there representing Ward No. 5, told the crowd that a petition had been made through Sahntinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti and would be given to the Chief Minister of Sikkim. The petition was about turning the old, damaged, and unused Power House at Toppakhani into an office for the Chisopani GPU. Also, 100 x 100 plots of land near Shantinagar's Old Hospital Colony can be used for the same thing.

He listed a few of the demands of the Shantinagar Ward, which included

1. Beautification of the Walkway from Pipal Dara to Juice Factory that includes a toilet, cafe house, rest shed for senior citizens, and plantation.

2. The walkway between Pipal Dara and Juice Factory has been maintained by Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti since 2021. Therefore, the GPU should give permission for the collection of fines for walkway maintenance.

3. Request for a walkway with railing for school-going students, villagers and the public visiting the Gumpa along NH 10 from Juice Factory to Singtam Bazaar. Closure of drainage and maintenance of Jhoras along the National Highway from NREGA.

SGSS celebrates 74th R’Day; felicitates its three members

27.01.2023, Singtam: Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti celebrated the 74th Republic Day at Badminton Court, Shantinagar, Singtam. Mrs Keemti Rai, Assistant Commissioner, Commercial Tax Department, Rangpo, the Chief Guest of the day unfurled the tricolour flag. There were also two minutes of silence observed on the tragic plane accident that occurred in Nepal recently.

This event also saw a first as a photo frame of Bharat Mata was offered flowers after the national anthem by all the guests. The highlight of the day was the launch of SGSS’s annual calendar and felicitation program. Other distinguished guests included – Mohan Pradhan ‘Neeraj’, Somanth Pandey, Sarad Lama, SK Rai, Dilip Prasad and others.

Keemti Rai, the Chief Guest and other guests released the Samiti's calendar for the year 2023. TB Pradhan, KN Dulal and KB Sundas, all Advisors of the Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti were felicitated for their contribution towards the upliftment of society. SK Rai, Sarad Lama and BB Tamang, advisors of SGSS, were given an appreciation letter for being members of SGSS’s Election Committee. This committee successfully conducted the election of executive members.

The Chief Guest appreciated the different works carried out by the organization. She said the organization stood out for its equality as a Chief Guest. She further spoke about the importance of the day. Krishna Chettri, President, SGSS in his speech highlighted different steps taken by the organization for the betterment of society. He added that a proposal for a garbage vehicle for Shantinagar is in the pipeline. Furthermore, the Rani Khola Walkway was declared that day a No Smoking and No Drinking Zone.

Suman Sunar, Treasurer, SGSS gave the annual financial report of the organization. Anand Lamichaney, Vice President, SGSS spoke about the activities conducted by the organization in the last year. Other people speaking on the occasion included Mohan Pradhan Neeraj, SK Rai and TB Pradhan.

16/01/23, Shantinagar : Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti would like to thank SE Sir, AE Madam, Power Dept, Topakhani circle for providing 2 halogen light and poll for Badminton Court at Shantinagar along Rani Khola Walkway. It will help children to practice badminton at night as well and the dept has been very helpful and supportive for which we shall be very much grateful said Krishna Chettri, President, SGSS.

SGSS has been conducting free 1 month badminton training to children at Badminton Court , Shantinagar under the guidance of President, Krishna Chettri.

14/01/23, Shantinagar: A meeting of SGSS was held at Badminton Court, Shantinagar to discuss on the upcoming Annual General Meeting on 26th January and various agenda for the meeting under the guidance of President, Krishna Chetrri.
It was passed that Rs 500 to be collected per family for the AGM which will include picnic (lunch) at the end. Various advises were taken from advisors and executives on it and an organising committee is formed for the AGM which included Menuka Sundas, Rita Sherpa, Maiya Chettri, Archana Sunar and others. Invitation and collection of the fund will be carried on during weekend by the committee.

All members are requested to provide their monthly fee before the AGM which will help us to close the accounts for the previous years before the AGM.

Members are requested to reach the venue badminton court on the said date before 8am

19/12/2022: Members of SGSS has been frequently patrolling at night in the walkway area to curb crimes and to stop people throwing garbage in walkway and rivers at night.

05.12.22: In an exciting match of the 2nd Badminton tournament held at Mazhitar, Rangpo, the duo of Rajiv Lama and Pastor Rup Narayan Gurung defeated the pair of Krishna Chettri and Gurmeet Singh from Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti in a deciding set at the Veteran 40+ event.

Sailesh Rai, HR, Aristro Pharma was the Chief Guest of the day while Dinesh Pradhan from Duga was the umpire of the game.
