from the beautiful village of Makha to Gujarat in the west ❤️

With great happiness we would like to share the good news that our environmental works at Makha has been successful in attracting a nation wide attention with an opportunity to be presented at Banas Dairy, Gujarat in the front of 51 Changemakers across 27 different states and different elites from various agencies.

We congratulate each and everyone on this grand success. We also hope that just like this story of Makha travelling from Sikkim reaching upto Gujarat in the far west, our story would one day cross boundaries to be presented in foreign countries as well !!

Congratulations to Govt Sr Sec School, Makha, Eco club, and the whole region under Patuk-Singbel GPU. Gratitude to all our students, mentors, participating schools, government departments and local intellectuals. Thank you all. 🙏🙏

We congratulate everyone on the success of yet another phase of ‘Nawa Nikunja Prakaran’ or the ‘New Forestry Initiative’ under the Hariyo Makha project. Due to excessive social engagements of our core team members it was a challenging task for us to continue. However, even under such difficult scenarios their determination somehow made it possible. Huge applaud to them !!

Our journey had started from 4 July when some of our team members were successful in meeting Shri Samdup Tshering Bhutia, Hon’ble Area MLA, 16 Tumin Lingi constituency who is also the Chief Patron of Nawa Nikunja Prakaran. On the same day we also got an opportunity in meeting Dr D Manjunatha, IFS, Chief Wildlife Warden, Forest and Environent Department, Govt of Sikkim who motivated and supported us.

After 30 days of dedicated ground work, we had utilised the first Sunday of August (3rd August) for the 2nd phase of our plantation at Youn forest area, Singbel under Patuk-Singbel GPU located at a distance of around 500 metres below Singtam-Makha road. Our humble gratitude to everyone supporting the plantation drive of fruit tree saplings.

Our initiative is also inspired by Hon'ble Chief Minister's vision of Mero Rukh Mero Santati (MRMS). One child Lochana Dhungel, D/o Menuka Devi Adhikari & Lomas Dhungel of Singtam covered under MRMS. Plantation was also done in the name of Shrivik Neopaney, S/o Bal Krishna Neopaney & Sarita Neopaney of Singbel.

Participants:
Hon’ble Area MLA, Ward panchayats of Patuk-Singbel GPU, Zilla Panchayat, teachers & students from Eco club Makha, Government Primary School Central Patuk, Block Officer Singtam, members from Paksam Moonlight Sangh (Patuk), WDS Singbel, SHGs, NREGA workers and local intellectuals

Resource persons:

The 'Pyaro Mauri' or 'Dear Bees' initiative is a small attempt in raising awareness on the declining population of bees in our surroundings, and to support them by planting sufficient number of mustard seeds during the dry winter season when the food source is scarce.

We express our gratitude to the following who have extended their support by donating mustard seeds to us:

Our donors: Leela Dhar Gautam & Pushpa Gautam (Lingee Payong), Oma Devi Regmi & Pushpa Lal Regmi (Patuk), Gopal Acharya & Yog Maya Regmi (Makha), Rupa Rai (Paksam), Dil Kumari Chettri (Patuk), Hari Prasad Sharma (Namphing), Pavitra Tirwa (Singbel), Mishika Gautam (Makha), B. B. Chettri (Patuk) & Dharmendra Lamichaney (Lingee)

Some more kind donors are likely to support us in few days to come.

After collection, these seeds will be distributed for free of cost to students, school staffs as well as the public volunteers.
