Gorkha EmpowerCare Foundation Reaches Flood-Hit Trishuli, Extends Relief to Nuwakot Victims
NUWAKOT, NEPAL, September 3: The Gorkha EmpowerCare Foundation has extended relief support to families affected by the devastating flash floods in Trishuli of Nuwakot, with its chief Chandan Sitoula reaching the ground zero on Thursday to meet victims and distribute essential relief materials and financial assistance.
Sitoula visited the flood-affected communities, interacted with survivors and families who lost their homes and belongings, and assured them of continued support during the difficult period.
On Thursday, 50 flood-affected families received essential relief materials, including blankets, pillows, utensils and other household items needed for their immediate recovery. In addition, 20 families were provided cash assistance to help them meet urgent household requirements.
Speaking during the relief distribution, Sitoula said the assistance was only a small gesture of solidarity from Indians, particularly Gorkhas living in different parts of India and abroad, along with members and supporters of the Gorkha EmpowerCare Foundation.
“This is only a small token of gesture from India, especially from Gorkhas staying abroad and members of our Foundation. We have come here to stand with our brothers and sisters in Nepal during this difficult time. If everything goes well, we will come again to support Nepal during its crisis phase,” Sitoula said.
He also spent time listening to the experiences of flood survivors, many of whom are still struggling to rebuild their lives after the disaster. He assured the affected families that the Foundation would explore every possible avenue to provide further assistance.
The visit was aimed not only at distributing relief materials but also at conveying a message of cross-border solidarity and humanitarian support at a time when many families in Nuwakot continue to face severe challenges following the floods.
The Gorkha EmpowerCare Foundation, which has been involved in humanitarian and community-support initiatives, has been mobilising assistance for disaster-affected communities. The Foundation's latest initiative in Nuwakot reflects the growing efforts by Gorkha communities and social organisations from India and abroad to support people affected by the disaster.
For the flood victims in Trishuli, the assistance comes at a crucial time as they continue to cope with the loss of homes, household belongings and sources of livelihood. While the immediate relief provides some much-needed support, many families still require longer-term assistance for rehabilitation and reconstruction.
