LUNAR ECLIPSE OF 3RD mARCH 2026. The main TOTALITY part will NOT BE visible from Siliguri or North Bengal
The Timings:
1. Eclipse Starts: 03:20PM (Daytime. Moon is bellow Horizon. Not Visible)
2. Total Eclipse starts: 04:34PM (Daytime. Moon is bellow Horizon. Not Visible)
3. Total Eclipse ends: 05:33PM (Daytime. Moon is bellow Horizon. Not Visible. )
4. Moon Rise: 05:39PM (Daytime. Moon is not visible)
5. Sunset: 06:05PM (Strong light in the sky. Moon is not visible)
6. Eclipse ends: 06:48PM (Moon is faintly visible).
So, practically, the extreame end part of the eclipse will be visible after around 06:40PM to 06:48PM. But thick dust layer in the air and post sunset twilight may make even this small portion also not visible from Siliguri.
The timings and positioning of Moon will be almost the same for Entire West Bengal.

Can they SEE sky? Those who do not have EYES?
The big answer is 'YESSSS.'
'SEEING' = Stimulated by photons, sensitive cells in our retina release electrical impulses that travel to the brain through nerves. After processing that impulse data, the brain 'PERCEIVES' an 'IMAGE'. And that PERCEOPTION is the SEEING.
This description makes Eye secondary for SEEING. If we can give enough data to the brain to process in PROPER way by passing the EYE, the brain can make its host to SEE. Means, our Visually Impaired (VI) friends also can see. It's that simple.
Only task for us is to develop this 'PROPER' way of 'SHOWING' them. Though EYE is absent, but VI friends have God gifted strength in the rest of their sensory system. Eventually they are very fast learners.
A recent outdoor camp of three nights at a location in Himalayan foothills in West Bengal at an altitude of around 1000 ft was the turf for SWAN to present 'Sky Watching' for around 30 VI participants. Sctions in the module were 'Clock-face orientation,' 'Sky Orientation,' ' Solar System Structuring,' 'Solar and Lunar Movement Orientation,' ' Experiencing Lunar Surface Coordinate and Topography,' (Far and Near both sides of Moon).
It was fourth of this kind of initiative for SWAN. The first one was of three hours and took place in a similar camp in 2016. Every time the module is being modified, improvised, enlarged and getting deeper.
I do not know how far I could give them, but learnt a lot. Thank you PRERANA' The organization that is the HOME for all these perticipants and that had taken all the pain to arrange this camp. Thank you my VI friends for for being with me to 'SEE' sky. For being my Co Learners.

সূর্য। কখনো কি দেখেছি এই চেহারাতে ?

ভোরবেলা জবাকুসুমের মত লাল, বা মধ্য দিনে উজ্জ্বল সোনালী রঙের থালা। এই তো আমাদের জানা সূর্যের চেহারা। কিন্তু এর থেকে বের হয়ে আসা আগুনের শিখাগুলো, এর মধ্যে থাকা কম উত্তাপের কালো কালো ছাপ এই সব আমরা কখনো দেখতে পাই না।
সূর্যের উপরের তলে প্রতিনিয়ত ঘটে চলা এই সব ধুরন্ধর ক্রিয়াকলাপের চেহারা দেখা যায় এক বিশেষ টেলিস্কোপ দিয়ে যার নাম এইচ-আলফা (H-Alpha) টেলিস্কোপ।
National Council of Science Museum এর আমন্ত্রণে আগামী কাল (21st Dec) এই বছরের সবচাইতে ছোট দিনকে উদযাপন করতে SWAN তার H-Alpha টেলিস্কোপ বসাবে উত্তরবঙ্গ বিজ্ঞান কেন্দ্রে।
যে কোনও উৎসাহী মানুষ আসতে পারেন, দেখতে পারেন। অভিজ্ঞতা নিতে পারেন। সকাল ১১টায়। না, এর জন্যে কোন আলাদা টিকিট কাটতে হবে না। আর SWAN ও এর জন্যে কোন জায়গা থেকে কোনো রকম অর্থানুকুল্য বা সুবিধা পাবে না।
প্রসঙ্গত বলে রাখি, এ দেশে বেসরকারি ক্ষেত্রে SWAN ই প্রথম H-Alpha টেলিস্কোপ এনেছিল। ২০১২ তে।

"Atithi Devo Bhava"
One who has travelled for '700 crores years' at 2 lakh km per hour speed to be my guest.
Telling story of this unique guest today to a large bunch of bright school students was a wonderful experience for me.
Indeed a guest- to Solar System. Comet 3I/Atlas, who has travelled this far to reach its closest distance to the third planet of Solar System Earth today, 19th Dec 2025, from somewhere deep inside our Galaxy MilkyWay. The busy guest will not stay here. Saying just 'Hello' to Sun and taking a tiny swing in its path due to enormous solar gravity, it will continue its flying towards another star, may be for many more crore of years. But not to come again close to Sun for sure.
The two hour long ... no not a lecture session... but a play session, a solar system modeling session, a chit chat session, a interactive Q & A session was my presentation on invitation of NCSM as a part of its science fair at NB Science Center auditorium.
Cacophony of the thrilled kids there inside the auditorium added at least five more extra years in my life. Thank you kids, thank you NCSM (National Council of Science Museum).

ALIEN Ship? Of almost double the age of Sun.
A flying object, '3I/ Atlas' has sneeked into our Solar System after travelling for over 700 Crore years with over 50 km per second speed. What is it? An Alien Ship? A dead 'Planet?'..... On invitation of National Council of Science Museum, I ll be speaking on ins and outs of this object on the 19th of Dec at 11:AM at Siliguri Science Center Auditorium. Anyone interested may attend. There won't be any special entry fee other than the usual Science Center entry fee at the main gate.

চাঁদের বুকে এক টুকরো জমি।
ছোট্ট একটা টেলিস্কোপ আর আমার হাতে তৈরি ক্যামেরা দিয়ে ২০১৩ সালে তোলা ছবি। অনেকদিন পরে খুঁজে পেলাম। প্রথম ছবিটাতে সবচাইতে বড় গর্তটা বা ক্রেটারটা এধার থেকে ওধার প্রায় ৩০ কিমি। নাম আর্কিমিডিস। তার পরের ক্রেটারটা আরিস্টিলাস আর তার পরে অটলিকাস। পরের ছবিটাতে আছে ক্লভিয়াস ক্রেটার । আর তার মধ্যে আবার আরও ক্রেটার। এর পর মরেটাস। তার পেটের মধ্যে আবার একটা পাহার। বিচিত্র এই চাঁদের জমি। দেখতে বসলে কখন রাত কাবার হয়ে যায় টেরই পাওয়া যায় না।

The biggest creater seen in the first image here is Archimedis (Diemeter 30 km), the next one is Aristilus and the third biggest one is Autolicus.
The second picture shows Clavius crater, with baby craters in it and Moretus with a rocky hill at its center.

SUNSPOT today. আজ সকালের সৌর কলঙ্ক ।
শুধু আমরা নই। সূর্যও নানা অশান্তির মধ্যে দিয়ে চলেছে এখন। তাই তার মুখেও নানা দাগ। তইরী হচ্ছে, কদিন পরে মিলিয়ে যাচ্ছে আবার তইরী হচ্ছে।
আগুনের এই গোলাটার মধ্যে এখন চলেছে নানা ঝড় ঝঞ্ঝা। তারি চিহ্ন হোল সূর্যের মুখের এই দাগগুলো। এই ঝড়ের ঝাপটা বয়ে যায় পৃথিবীর ওপর দিয়ে। তাতে তইরী হয় অনেক বড় আর অসাধারণ সব অরোরা । অরোরা বরিয়ালিস আর অরোরা অস্ট্রালিস। মেরু প্রদেশে আর তার কাছাকাছি অঞ্চলে রাতের আকাশে নানা রকম দিগন্ত বিস্তৃত আলোর ঝলকানি । তবে খারাপটাও আছে। আমাদের টেলি যোগাযোগ, বিদ্যুৎ বণ্টন, সব কিছুর অপরে এর কু প্রভাব পরে। সেগুলোকে সামলাতে আমাদের বিজ্ঞানীদের আর ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের কালঘাম ছটে। প্রতি ১১ বছরে একবার করে এমনটি হয় যেমন এখন হচ্ছে।
মানে, ট্রাম্প, মোদী, দিদি, ডলারে প্রায় ১০০ ছুঁই ছুঁই করা মুখ থোবড়ানো টাকা, শীতকালে ১০০টাকা কেজি বেগুন এই সবের ওপরেও আরও কিছু ঝামেলা আছে আমাদের।

Real India: Where no one is in 'Khatre me.'
SWAN's outreach on the 4th night at one of the remotest villages inm North Dinajpore District. The village that hosts few hundred pure hearts.. as pure as the Moon that the people there wached through SWAN's Telescope. A vast ocean of nothingness there. No shopping mall, no zomato, no ola, no KFC, not even a bituminous road. But the village is an island full of rich and pure souls those who make it sure that the Imam of local mosque become sthe chief guest of the 'Ras' Mela and the priest of local temple always remains as the gueat in chief in special Eid Celebration. This is our real India.

Its amazing. Allmost all the 5000 stars we can see with naked eye are much bigger than our own star Sun.
