On 25th May 2026, a Tuberculosis (TB) Awareness Session was successfully conducted at Kamala Tea Estate with the participation of 38 community members, under Collective Voice Project.
The session focused on educating participants about the causes, symptoms, prevention, treatment, and common myths surrounding TB. Through active discussions, participants learned the importance of early diagnosis, completing treatment, maintaining proper nutrition, and supporting individuals affected by TB without stigma.
Together, we can create healthier and more informed communities through awareness and collective action.

Darjeeling Mary Ward Social Center successfully organized a two-day Capacity Building Training for the beneficiaries of the Ethical Enterprise Initiative for Youth and Women Project, on 30th & 31st of May, 2026. The training focused on hand knitting and handmade bag making, providing participants with practical skills that can be transformed into income-generating opportunities. A total of 25 beneficiaries participated in the training. The initiative aimed to empower them with the knowledge and confidence to establish small businesses, enhance their livelihoods, and work towards greater economic self-reliance.

On 28th May 2026, a Finance Orientation Programme was conducted at Darjeeling Mary Ward Social Centre for the staff. The orientation focused on important topics related to the financial system, bills and vouchers, payment systems, and other finance-related procedures followed within the organization.
The session was facilitated by Mr. B. Periwal, who shared valuable knowledge and practical guidance to strengthen the team’s understanding of financial management and documentation processes.
The orientation proved to be highly informative and beneficial for the participants, helping enhance transparency, accountability, and effective financial practices within the organization.

On 20th of May’ 2026 a Legal awareness session was conducted at Damdama Tea Estate, where 55 beneficiaries were present, including coordinator, animator & field associate. Topics covered: Child Marriage and Adolescent cyber safety. Session was conducted by the coordinator, in a participatory way through video presentation and sharing. Beneficiaries were sensitized on child marriage issues and incidents happening through social media.

One-day Training & Orientation Program for the Tuition Learning Centre teachers was successfully conducted on 15th May 2026 at DMWSC. The main objective of the training was to strengthen the capacity of teachers in project, enhance their teaching skills, improve classroom management, and orient them on child-friendly and activity-based learning methods. All total 11 staffs were present. Teachers learned and practiced on T.L.M Preparation.

Empowering women through skill building!
On 21st May 2026, a one-day Momo Making Training was organized at DMWSC Training Hall for women beneficiaries from tea garden areas under the Collective Voice Project.
The training aimed to build practical skills for income generation by teaching participants hands-on momo preparation, while also introducing them to business opportunities, sustainable entrepreneurship, and how small skills can grow into long-term livelihood options.
It was a day of learning, participation, and inspiration, where women from tea garden communities gained practical knowledge and motivation towards self-reliance and economic empowerment.

On 11th and 12th May 2026, monitoring visits were conducted under Project Utthaan at Atal Tea Estate, Merryview Tea Estate, Sonachandi Tea Estate, and Maruti Tea Estate by Ms. Bishakha Sen and Rita Ma’am as part of the ongoing project monitoring and community engagement process.
During the visits, interactive discussions were held with women, youths, and children to review field-level activities, understand community challenges, and gather feedback regarding the project initiatives. Awareness was also shared on important social issues such as child protection, education, gender-based violence, human trafficking, and community responsibility.
The team further met with the office staff for an orientation session on ongoing projects and the work of Darjeeling Mary Ward Social Centre, encouraging stronger coordination and community participation for social development.

The Menstrual Hygiene Management Project conducted a two-day Reusable Sanitary Pad Making Training on 12th and 13th May 2026 for women and SHG members from tea garden communities.
The training focused on menstrual hygiene awareness, breaking taboos, and hands-on learning of reusable sanitary pad making. The objective was to promote safe, affordable, and sustainable menstrual hygiene practices while building the skills and confidence of participants.
The initiative will continue in the field areas, helping women and girls adopt eco-friendly menstrual practices that support both environmental sustainability and household economy.
