Through to the Semifinals!

Meghalaya showed tremendous will and determination to come from a goal down to beat Punjab 2-1 in their second Group C match of the Dr Talimeren Ao Trophy 2026-27.

Meghalaya conceded in the 10th minute but equalised in the 61st through Ripaia Phawa before snatching the win with a stoppage time goal by Peacefully Pohplet (90'+4)!

As the top team in the Group, Meghalaya go through to the semifinals where they will play the winner of Group A on 25 September.

The MFA has named its 20-member squad that will take part in the Dr Talimeren Ao National Football Championship for Junior Girls (Tier 2) 2026-27

The team was given a warm send-off at the MFA Ground in Shillong on Friday, where senior MFA officials, Vice-President Cliff Nongrum, Joint Secretary Dipshon L Nongbri and members of the Women's Committee, were present.

The team will be coached by Haphi Kharkongor and will play their matches in Narainpur, Chhattisgarh, which will be the host venue for all Tier 2 fixtures.

Meghalaya have been drawn in Group C with Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Nagaland.

Tier 2 consists of 18 teams split into two groups of five and two groups of four. The group winners will progress to the semifinals and the two finalists will be promoted to Tier 1 next season.

Meghalaya were unable to push through to the semifinals of the Junior Boys National Football Championship 2026-27 (Tier 1) for the Dr BC Roy Trophy after losing their last Group C match to Mizoram 3-0 in Bengaluru today.

Both teams had earned the same number of points (6) before today's game but Mizoram had the better goal difference (+9 to +4), so Meghalaya had to win as only the group winners would progress to the knockouts.

Meghalaya had beaten Tamil Nadu 2-1 and Maharashtra 3-0 while Mizoram had won 7-0 and 2-0 respectively against those two teams.

Coach Playerson Jitem Syiemlieh retained faith in the same starting lineup from the previous two matches as Meghalaya pushed all-out for victory.

Mizoram's first 2 goals by C Lalhmingropuia (25', 56') were a little fortunate but they put Meghalaya firmly on the back foot. A stoppage time goal Malsawmtluanga (90'+1) wrapped up proceedings.

Despite exiting at the same stage they did last year, this performance from Meghalaya was an improvement on 2025-26 when they lost all three games and they will look to put up a stronger challenge next season.

Meghalaya has won 2 consecutive matches in Group C of the Junior Boys National Football Championship 2026-27 (Tier 1) for the Dr BC Roy Trophy and the boys are now prepared to take on Mizoram in their third match tomorrow morning at 8:15am in Bengaluru

This match will decide which of the two North East states progresses to the semifinals

Meghalaya enjoyed a serene 3-0 victory over Maharashtra in their second Group C match of the Junior Boys National Football Championship 2026-27 (Tier 1) for the Dr BC Roy Trophy in Bengaluru today.

Adriel B Nongbet (18', 47') and Habankhlur Lyngdoh Mawnai (52') scored in the comprehensive victory.

Coach Playerson Jitem Syiemlieh made no changes to the starting lineup from Meghalaya's 2-1 win against Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

Meghalaya will play their last group match against Mizoram on Saturday at 8:15am. After humbling Tamil Nadu 7-0 in the earlier match today, Mizoram have 6 points, tied with Meghalaya, but Mizoram lead on goal difference (+9 to +4). Meghalaya will thus need to win on Saturday in order to qualify for the semifinals as only the top team from each group will progress to the knockouts.
