Clean Village, Healthy Future – A Step Towards Malaria Prevention

At Belgaon village, Chhattisgarh a powerful community-led cleanliness drive brought together inspiring women who took charge of their surroundings during Malaria Awareness Week. With active participation from the Sarpanch Madam, the initiative reflected true leadership and collective responsibility towards building a healthier village.

From sweeping streets to cleaning public spaces, the women led by example, ensuring waste was disposed of in designated garbage pits and promoting better sanitation practices. Households were guided on maintaining hygiene around their homes, including cleaning stagnant drain water using phenyl and bleaching powder to prevent mosquito breeding.

Our team from LEPRA Society - SHAKTHI Project actively engaged with the community, spreading awareness on malaria prevention and the importance of cleanliness. Supervisor Anupama shared practical tips on keeping surroundings safe, while our Information, Education and Communication (IEC) van further strengthened the message through on-ground training and demonstrations.

We sincerely thank the Azim Premji Foundation for its continued support in empowering communities and strengthening grassroots health initiatives.

Together, this effort is a reminder that small actions at the community level can create a big impact in preventing diseases and promoting a healthier tomorrow.

Taking healthcare to every doorstep.

In village Borigaon, our team conducted door-to-door visits to reach individuals who often face barriers in accessing healthcare services. Through systematic community screening, we ensured early identification of health concerns right at their homes where it matters the most.

We worked closely with Community Health Workers (CHWs), guiding and supervising them during field activities to strengthen service delivery at the grassroots level. These efforts were aimed at improving early detection, increasing health awareness, and ensuring timely referrals and support for those in need.

As part of the Shakthi Project, supported by Azim Premji Foundation, we also actively participated in Universal Health Coverage (UHC) initiatives. These activities focused on spreading awareness about available health services, encouraging preventive care, and empowering communities to take charge of their health.

Why this matters: Many communities lack easy access to healthcare facilities. By reaching people directly, we reduce delays in diagnosis, prevent complications, and build trust within the community moving closer to a future where quality healthcare is accessible to all.

Every visit is not just a check-up, it’s a step towards equity, awareness, and healthier lives.

On this World Health Day, we are reminded that while financial risks can be managed or recovered, health risks often leave lasting impacts.

Even today, the diagnosis of Leprosy remains a major challenge, leading to delayed treatment and, in many cases, lifelong disabilities that could have been prevented.

Health is not a gamble we can afford to take. Early detection, awareness, and access to proper care are not privileges they are necessities.

Let’s prioritize health over everything, because every life deserves timely care, dignity, and a chance to live without limitations.

We are pleased to share a remarkable case of ulcer healing managed under our dedicated care and follow-up. The patient initially presented with a deep plantar ulcer associated with loss of sensation, posing a high risk for infection and further complications.
Through timely intervention, regular wound dressing, proper offloading techniques, and patient education on self-care practices, significant improvement was observed over time. The progressive stages clearly demonstrate healthy granulation tissue formation and gradual wound contraction, ultimately leading to successful healing.
This case highlights the importance of early detection, consistent care, and patient compliance in preventing disability among persons affected by leprosy. Our team also emphasized the use of protective footwear and daily self-inspection to avoid recurrence.
We remain committed to strengthening community-based rehabilitation, promoting awareness, and ensuring quality care for every individual in need.
