Autism Awareness & Inclusion – Event Highlights

A meaningful round table on Autism Awareness & Inclusion was organised by Suchir India Foundation, led by Founder Chairman Dr. Kiron, at Ravindra Bharathi on 27 April 2026.

Experts emphasised the importance of early diagnosis, timely intervention, and inclusive education, while highlighting the rising cases of autism and the growing financial burden on families.

The UVARD Federation Secretariat, led by Chairman P. Ummar Khan, along with EC Members and 40 member organisations, actively participated in the session.

Together, we move forward towards awareness, inclusion, and collective action.

🌸 International Women’s Day Celebrations – 2026 🌸

The International Women’s Day Celebration organized by UVARD Federation in collaboration with Lions Club of Hyderabad Hi-Tech City was successfully held on 14th March 2026 at Helen Keller’s Institute & Rehabilitation Centre, Secunderabad.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 35+ NGOs/ federation member organisations across Telangana. On this special occasion, 60 dedicated women professionals — including Special Educators, Therapists, Rehabilitation Professionals, Caregivers, and Women Leaders — were honoured and felicitated for their outstanding contribution to the disability sector.

Many participants shared their inspiring journeys and experiences of serving persons with disabilities. The awardees expressed their heartfelt appreciation to UVARD Federation for recognising their efforts and commitment.

The celebration was a proud moment of recognition, inspiration, and solidarity, reaffirming our collective commitment towards building an inclusive society for persons with disabilities.

*United Voluntary Action for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (UVARD)* successfully launched its *2026 Calendar* on 6th February 2026 in the esteemed presence of *Smt. B. Shailaja,* Director, Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens & Transgender Persons (DEPwD, SC&TGP), Government of Telangana @ Dept office, Malakpet, Hyderabad.
The programme was graciously attended by *Shri P. Ummar Khan Garu,* Chairman, *UVARD Federation,* *Members of the Executive Committee (EC),* *UVARD Federation member organisations* & *UVARD Secretariat staff*
During the programme, Shri P. Ummar Khan Garu, Chairman of UVARD Federation, briefed the Director about the various projects, initiatives, and activities being implemented by UVARD across Telangana for the disability community.
Smt. B. Shailaja appreciated the collective efforts of UVARD Federation and its member organisations in working consistently for the welfare of persons with disabilities. She commended UVARD for its structured approach, unity among member organisations, and commitment toward inclusive development.
She assured her full support and cooperation from the Department and expressed readiness to take all possible steps required to strengthen initiatives that benefit persons with disabilities across the state.
The calendar launch served as:
• A platform to showcase UVARD’s unity and collective strength
• An opportunity to strengthen engagement with the state disability department
• A reaffirmation of UVARD’s commitment to inclusive growth and empowerment of persons with disabilities
The event concluded with renewed motivation among members and reinforced collaboration between UVARD and the Government of Telangana.

🌟 Sankalp Mela 2026 – Empowering Persons with Disabilities 🌟

UVARD Secretariat staff along with 15 member NGOs and Special Schools actively participated in Sankalp Mela held on 21 January 2026 at Prof. Jayashankar Stadium, Secunderabad. The event brought together persons with diverse disabilities, service providers, and partners on a common platform to access information on education, employment, skill development, health services, UDID registration, assistive devices, and livelihood support.

The mela also witnessed the presence of prominent disability sector leaders and vibrant cultural performances by NGOs, celebrating inclusion, talent, and collaboration. A truly impactful initiative towards awareness, networking, and empowerment of persons with disabilities. ♿✨

The Taare Zameen Par programme was conducted on 14 November 2025 at Swayamkrushi, Yapral, as part of RTI Week, organised by Round Table India in association with UVARD Federation and Swayamkrushi Organisation. The event brought together 13 UVARD member organisations with around 250–300 children and their staff from Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal–Malkajgiri districts, along with UVARD Secretariat members. The day featured vibrant drawing and creative expression activities, fun entertainment performances, and meaningful inclusion moments, concluding with the distribution of prizes and certificates to all participants, making it a joyful and memorable celebration for the children. The event successfully:

Promoted creativity, confidence, and social participation among children

Strengthened collaboration between Round Table India, UVARD Federation, and special schools/NGOs

Provided a platform for peer bonding, expression, and joy

Enhanced community awareness on inclusion of children with disabilities

We are proud to share that some of our registered member organizations were invited by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for an open discussion on the challenges faced by NGOs working for persons with disabilities in Telangana.

Representing the collective voice of over 100 member NGOs, the UVARD Federation actively participated in the consultation held on 29th July 2025. Our Chairman, Mr. P. Ummar Khan, and Secretary General, Mr. P. Madhusudan Reddy, presented a detailed representation highlighting 18 key challenges affecting disability-focused NGOs across the state.

We thank NHRC for this opportunity and remain committed to advocating for inclusive policy reforms and systemic support for disability welfare.

UVARD & Sanatana Dharmam Seva Samiti Teams Meets Union Minister for Coal & Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy Ji – A joint initiative & Positive Step Towards Health Insurance for the Mentally Challenged
Presented a representation requesting the inclusion of mentally challenged individuals under health insurance coverage. The Minister responded positively and assured that they are eligible for free coverage under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. This is a significant and hopeful step forward!
If implemented effectively, this initiative can benefit lakhs of persons with mental disabilities across India, ensuring access to essential healthcare services and dignity of life.
