On World Elephant Day, Goa has a special story to tell. 🐘

Elephants may not be the first animals we associate with Goa, but their occasional presence tells an important story about wildlife movement, forests and connected landscapes.

Goa’s forests are part of a larger ecological network that wildlife depends on. Every wild visitor reminds us of the importance of protecting these spaces and the corridors that connect them.

This World Elephant Day, let’s celebrate Goa’s wild visitor.

Reflecting on our journey, strengthening our team, and looking ahead.

AERO’s Annual Review Meeting 2025–26 brought our team together for three days of discussions, ideas, collaboration, and celebration.

The meeting included reviews of ongoing projects across all divisions, discussions on achievements and future plans, and an opportunity for our new team members to interact with the Governing Body.

Beyond the discussions and planning, the three days were also about building connections, sharing moments, and having fun as a team.

We look forward to carrying this energy forward into another year of meaningful work for nature, sustainability, and communities.

🌏 From Georgia, USA to the heart of rural Goa—where communities are leading the way in conservation.

As part of the **Discover India through BITS** programme at BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus, a group of nine undergraduate students and one faculty member from Kennesaw State University, Georgia, USA, visited Mayem Village for an enriching experience in rural life, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable community development.

The visit was facilitated by **Arannya Environment Research Organisation (AERO)** in collaboration with **Mahamaya Vachanalaya, Mayem**, with the support of the **Village Panchayat** and the **Biodiversity Management Committee, Mayem–Vainguinim**.

The delegation met with local leaders, youth champions, and community members who are working tirelessly to conserve biodiversity and promote sustainable living. They also explored **India's first Village Biodiversity Atlas**, learning how community participation can play a transformative role in documenting and protecting our natural heritage.

This visit was more than an exchange of ideas—it was a celebration of collaboration across cultures, proving that local actions can create global impact.

Together, we continue building bridges between communities, education, and conservation.

On the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day 2026, Shraddha and Samruddhi from AERO highlight one of Goa's most unique yet vulnerable ecosystems—the Lateritic Plateaus.

Often misunderstood as barren or wastelands, these landscapes are biodiversity hotspots that support countless endemic and seasonal species. It's time we recognise their true ecological value and work together to protect them.
