Barren to Green: The Power of Transformation🌳

Just nine months ago, this patch of land was barren mud. It has been transformed by 7,000 thriving mangrove saplings. This incredible "before and after" shows the real impact of our work. We've proven that with passion and perseverance, we can bring life back to our coastlines.

We, Sukher Swarga Foundation , Sundarbans Grassroots NGO have hit a major milestone, successfully growing over 100,000 mangrove saplings in our nursery this year! These young trees are healthy and strong, but they are still waiting for their final home. We cannot plant this many saplings alone. We are urgently seeking partnerships with CSR initiatives, NGOs, and individual donors to help us plant this new forest and secure a greener future for everyone. Your support will turn these saplings into a protective green barrier for our community.

The Sundarbans is a special place, World Heritage Site/ Biosphere Reserve/ National Park/ Wildlife sanctuary/ Tiger Reserve full of amazing nature. But it's also a place that needs protection from climate change. Mangrove trees are the best natural defense, and a group called the Sukher Swarga Foundation, Top 10 Sundarban Grassroots NGO is doing incredible work to protect them.

This year, 2025 the foundation has done something amazing. we grew 100,000 (one lakh) mangrove saplings in our nursery with the support of Self help Group Women till now. That's a huge number and shows just how dedicated we are to our mission.

We don't just use these saplings for one thing. We have two main goals:

Helping Others: We sell a lot of their saplings to other non-profit groups (NGOs). This helps more people plant trees and protect more areas. It's a great way to work together.

Their Own Projects: We also use many of the saplings for their own planting projects. They plant them along the coast to build stronger defenses against storms and to create new homes for wildlife.

To make sure the forest is strong, we grow six different kinds of mangroves. This includes well-known species like Sundari (Heritiera fomes), Bani (Avicennia officinalis), and Keora (Sonneratia apetala). Growing different types of trees makes the forest healthier and better able to survive.

The work at the Sukher Swarga Foundation's nursery shows how a small group can have a big impact. Every single one of those 100,000 trees is a step towards a safer and greener future for the Sundarbans.

We are thrilled to share that Dr. Sravan Kumar Khuntia has joined Sukher Swarga Foundation as Strategic Advisor, effective August 27, 2025. A decorated Indian Navy veteran with 22 years of service, Dr. Khuntia—celebrated as a “Carbon Warrior”—brings outstanding expertise from founding innovative ventures in cleantech and agritech.

His role will be pivotal in advancing our mission for climate resilience, guiding large-scale Blue Carbon projects, and accelerating environmental restoration in the Sundarbans. Dr. Khuntia’s leadership will enhance our capacity to build partnerships, mobilize resources, and drive sustainable impact—empowering communities, restoring biodiversity, and reducing carbon footprints.
