There was a time when Runli Village was widely known for its rich agricultural and horticultural heritage. Alongside its natural prosperity, the village also served as an important defence location where camps of SIB/SSB/CRPF were stationed.
Around the 1970s, due to misunderstandings and conflicts between the local villagers and certain government personnel at Desali C.O HQ., the situation gradually escalated into serious disputes and violence. As a result, the SSB/SIB/CRPF personnel were eventually called back from Runli Village.
Over the years, because of the lack of basic facilities such as proper road connectivity and infrastructure, many villagers slowly began migrating to other places in search of better opportunities and living conditions. By the beginning of the 20th century, nearly 60% of the villagers had migrated, and by around the year 2010, only about 5–6 houses remained in the village.
Even today, the people of Runli express their heartfelt gratitude and deep respect to our beloved leader, Shri Naba Mukut Mithi Ji, former Chief Minister, Lieutenant Governor, and Member of Parliament. During his tenure as Chief Minister, he took the people of Runli under his care and established a Model Village at Desali for the welfare, rehabilitation, and better future of our community. Because of his vision, generosity, and support, many of us continue to live there peacefully and happily even today. However, over the years, many of our respected elders and senior villagers have sadly passed away.
Along with this happiness, we continue to face one major challenge in Desali, the lack of sufficient land for cultivation and sustainable livelihood. Agriculture and horticulture are sectors in which our people possess immense knowledge, experience, and potential. These sectors have the power to make our community self-reliant, economically strong, and independent. Unfortunately, due to the problem of agricultural land in Desali, we have not been able to fully develop these opportunities and aspirations.
Considering these realities and challenges, the villagers of Runli collectively decided to return to our ancestral village and rebuild our roots with unity, determination, and strength. Our dream is to reconnect with agriculture and horticulture, restore our livelihoods, and once again become self-dependent and self-sustainable.
With this vision and determination, the people of Runli have now begun returning to their ancestral land. Our forefathers left behind beautiful, fertile, and valuable land for future generations, and it is now our responsibility to protect, preserve, and utilize it wisely. Safeguarding our heritage and keeping our ancestral legacy alive is not only our duty, but also our pride, identity, and responsibility toward future generations.
With this dream in our hearts, we have returned to our village to rebuild our community, preserve our culture and traditions, strengthen our connection with our ancestral roots, and create a brighter and more prosperous future for the coming generations.
