Shakti Organisation, a grassroots entity established in 1992 and registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 in 1993, operates across Four Districts in Odisha: Rayagada, Kalahandi, Sambalpur and Koraput. Shakti undertakes projects designed to improve the well being of tribal people, improve and diversify secure livelihood options, improve water provision and sanitation, empower women and community organisations, and strengthen the Panchayat Raj Institutions.

She Didn't Ask for Much. She Just Wanted Someone to Care.

When our team visited a remote village in Rayagada, we met an elderly woman whose greatest struggle wasn't poverty, it was loneliness.

She spoke about feeling neglected, living without adequate care, and facing daily challenges in accessing basic needs.

Sometimes, the most important thing we can offer is not a solution, but a listening ear.

Our visit was more than a counseling session. It was a reminder that every elderly person deserves dignity, respect, emotional support, and a safe place to live.

At Shakti Organisation, we continue working to ensure that no senior citizen is left unheard or unseen.

SHAKTI Organisation organized a food grain distribution programme at its Administrative Office Complex in Kotapeta, Rayagada, where 50 tribal families from Kuliguda and Tarlabadi villages under Rayagada Block received 26 kg of rice and 4 kg of pulses each. The distribution was carried out in the presence of Kadraka Appalswamy, who appreciated the organization’s various community welfare initiatives and distributed the food supplies to the beneficiaries. Welcoming the guests, Director Ramesh Chandra Nayak highlighted the organization’s commitment to tribal welfare, while General Secretary Akhil Ranjan Panda informed that the support was part of the Pre-Education and Child Nutrition Programme implemented with support from Jiv Daya Foundation. Through this initiative, 200 tribal children and their families from Ramanaguda and Rayagada blocks are benefiting from early childhood education, daily milk and biscuits, winter clothing, three sets of dresses annually, and food grain support twice a year. The programme was coordinated by SHAKTI staff members Naresh Pedenti, Yedu Srinivasa Rao, and Maledi Krishna Rao.

We were honoured to host the Utkal media Media Journalists Association as they celebrated their 4th anniversary at our Matrushakti Old Age Home in Rayagada. On this special day, around 40 elderly residents were supported with clothes and food. But more than that, they were given time, attention, and respect.

The event was joined by respected guests from the district administration and social sector, who shared important thoughts on the role of media in society and raising the voice of rural communities. Moments like these remind us that care for the elderly is not just a responsibility, it is a collective duty.

Small steps towards financial independence.

In Rugu sedibai village, 8 Self-Help Group (SHG) members opened their savings accounts at SBI Ramanaguda for the first time. With support from the bank’s team, they now have their own passbooks and access to formal banking. Around 35 members joined this activity- learning, asking questions, and taking a step forward together. This will help them start small businesses, save money safely, and access schemes like Lakhyapato Yojana for loans. Because when women have access to finance, they build stronger futures for their families. Shakti Org is working to expand this initiative to 24 villages, so more women can become financially independent.
