🪐 When Colour Became Wings 🪐

The three-day Art Workshop with survivors of witch-hunt concluded today. The objective was first to help them heal, then to introduce them to painting and hand pottery, and finally to encourage them to explore the artist within themselves.
The results were mind-boggling. Women who could barely draw a straight line at the beginning created art pieces so beautiful that your eyes would remain glued to them.
One important discovery from this workshop was about the diversity of art traditions in Jharkhand. Jharkhand is often known for Sohrai painting, which is commonly found in Hazaribagh. However, as we move into the forests of Khunti and Simdega, where the Munda Adivasi and Khadia Adivasi communities have cultures very different from those in Hazaribagh, their art forms also change. What we saw this time was very different from Sohrai.
I am convinced that different tribes and communities everywhere have their own originality when it comes to art. It is just that some forms have become famous, while others remain hidden under layers of remoteness, marginalisation, and exclusion.
Given the opportunity, each woman can use art as her wings to explore her own sky.
These art forms will be exhibited at Xavier Institute of Social Service, Ranchi on 10th March 2026

🌼 वसंत पंचमी – सरस्वती पूजा का दिन 🌼

आज हम ज्ञान की देवी को पूजते हैं। लेकिन झारखंड में कई बच्चों के लिए ज्ञान तक पहुँचने का रास्ता ही मुश्किल होता जा रहा है। हालाँकि ज्ञान और स्कूल दो अलग शब्द महसूस होते हैं आज कल..खैर कुछ ज़रूरी Facts:
👉पिछले 5 साल में करीब 6 लाख बच्चे स्कूल सिस्टम से बाहर हो गए (मतलब 5 सालों में स्कूलों में नामांकन में करीबन 6 लाख की गिरावट आई है, पहले लगभग 80 लाख बच्चों का नाम स्कूलों में दर्ज़ था वहीं 2024-25 में ये संख्या घट कर करीबन 74 लाख तक आ गई है)
👉 पाँच हज़ार से ज़्यादा सरकारी स्कूल बंद या मर्ज हो चुके हैं
👉प्राइवेट स्कूल (या शिक्षा की दुकान कहें) की संख्या में इज़ाफ़ा हुआ है, पर उतना नहीं जितना की सरकारी स्कूल बंद हुए हैं
👉आंगनवाड़ी हैं, लेकिन शिक्षिका, समय और संसाधन अक्सर पूरे नहीं होते

जब स्कूल दूर हो जाता है, तो सबसे पहले लड़कियाँ पढ़ाई छोड़ती हैं। फिर आदिवासी बच्चे। फिर गरीब परिवारों के बच्चे। और भगवान न करे अगर आप लड़की भी हैं, ग़रीब भी और आदिवासी भी हैं तो सरस्वती पूजा तो आप ज़रूर मनायेंगे, पर सरस्वती मैया आपसे ज़रा दूर ही रहेंगीं ....

• लैंगिक न्याय और हिंसा की रोकथाम
• सर्वाइवर-केंद्रित काउंसलिंग और उपचार
• समुदाय के साथ संवाद और सामूहिक सोच
• आदिवासी स्वशासन का सम्मान
• सुरक्षित और समावेशी गांवों की दिशा में काम
