Met with the Deputy Commissioner, East Singhbhum, to discuss the rising concerns around road crashes in Jamshedpur and the need for stronger, coordinated road safety measures.

The recurring loss of lives underscores the importance of a data-driven approach to road safety, focusing on crash-prone locations, speeding, unsafe driving practices, heavy vehicle movement, and gaps in enforcement.

The discussion highlighted the need for sustained public awareness, evidence-based enforcement, safer traffic management, and greater community participation.

Road safety requires coordinated action, continuous monitoring, and a shared commitment to protecting every life.

Can what we build actually save a life?

For the past several years, we have had the opportunity to interact with young students of BIT MESRA.
This year too, I was invited to speak at the Student Induction Programme, where I took a session on “Road Safety Engineering for Life.”
The idea was simple. Road safety is not only about following rules. As future engineers, these students will build roads, vehicles, technologies and systems that will become part of people's everyday lives.

So, before building something, we should ask ourselves:
Can this make someone's life safer?
Can this prevent an accident?
Can this save a life?

Engineering is not just about making things work. It is also about understanding the impact of what we create.
Sometimes, a small design decision can make a very big difference.
Grateful to Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra for giving us this opportunity year after year to connect with young minds and have these conversations.

36,526 PEDESTRIANS LOST THEIR LIVES ON INDIAN ROADS IN 2024.

That means more than 1 in every 5 road deaths in India was a pedestrian.

Behind every number is a person..a parent, a child, a student, a worker, someone simply trying to get home.

Pedestrian safety cannot be an afterthought. We need safe roads designed for people...not just vehicles.
