At Gramin Bharti Sewa Sanstha, we believe that education goes beyond textbooks and classrooms. Along with supporting children’s formal education, we are committed to helping them learn, appreciate, and preserve their rich tribal heritage.

Through our programs, students are encouraged to explore and practice traditional folk songs, dance, music, and cultural traditions that are an integral part of their identity and community life. By nurturing cultural pride alongside academic learning, we aim to create confident and rooted young leaders.

Our students actively participate in various cultural and educational events. We are proud that they have also showcased their talents in the Sanvad Programme organized by Tata Steel Foundation, where they had the opportunity to share and celebrate their cultural heritage on a larger platform.

Preserving indigenous knowledge and traditions is not just about protecting the past it is about strengthening communities and inspiring future generations.

GBSS is delighted to welcome 18 interns from renowned institutions across India, including Azim Premji University, TISS, BHU, CUSB, Usha Martin University, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, and Lady Irwin College.

Bringing together diverse academic backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, these young changemakers share a common passion for learning, community engagement, and social impact.

Among them, 4 interns will be immersed in grassroots initiatives through direct community engagement and field exposure, while 14 interns will contribute virtually through research, documentation, data analysis, and thematic assignments, supporting development initiatives from across the country.

At GBSS, we believe that meaningful learning happens when knowledge meets action. Through this internship journey, we hope to create opportunities for learning, collaboration, innovation, and deeper engagement with development practice.

We look forward to the energy, curiosity, and fresh perspectives that this cohort will bring as they embark on a journey of learning and impact.

Chami Murmu is widely known as the "Lady Tarzan of Jharkhand" for her, immense contributions to afforestation. A recipient of the Padma Shri award, she has planted over 3 million trees and empowered over 30,000 rural women to protect forests from environmental degradation. She is often associated with this title, although sometimes confused with Jamuna Tudu, another prominent conservationist.

🌾 Internship Tracks
1️⃣ Rural Education & Community Engagement
Work with tribal children, support community learning spaces, assist in literacy initiatives, and contribute to education improvement planning at the grassroots level.
2️⃣ Livelihood Systems & Rural Futures
Engage with Self Help Groups (SHGs), rural youth, and women collectives. Participate in livelihood assessments, participatory rural appraisal (PRA), and strategy development for sustainable rural income systems.
👥 Who Should Apply?
Students of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, Rural Development, Public Policy, Education, Development Studies, Economics, and related fields
Young professionals seeking hands-on development sector experience
Individuals willing to live and work in rural communities
