PVK is a non-profit, non-governmental committed organization working nationwide for the protection of the environment, the rights of the people to clean and fresh water and air, the promotion of sustainable development, and the protection of the cultural heritage of India. We believe that if, all of us unite and take proper care in protection and conservation of the limited natural resources, we
can give our children a better tomorrow. It is possible only through community participation and awareness. PVK has been actively involved in creating awareness among NGO's,Lawyers,Scientists,Senior Officials, Academicians,Students & Youth through training and capacity building programmes, Seminars,workshops,declamation contests and other grass roots level activities. Paryavaraniya Vikas Kendra (PVK) and was established in the year 1995 by a group of environment engineers and social scientists in recognition of the importance of environmental protection in India's overall environment and development strategy. The organisation was formed with objective to see that environment and development go hand in hand. As the name suggests Paryavaraniya=Environmental and Vikas=Development and Kendra=Centre. "Paryavaraniya Vikas Kendra” performs all such acts that may assist in or be conducive to fostering environmental education, protection and security". PVK has been involved in generating mass awareness and deepening of national and international public debate on pollution-related issues, mobilizing the local communities in sustained high-pitched campaigns, and persistent advocacy with media, opinion makers and other stakeholders. In recent years Gujarat is facing issues like droughts, cyclone, floods, desertification, industrial pollution etc. At the time of formation of this organisation very few organisations were working with focus on environment conservation in Gujarat. Though Gujarat has been leading state in industrialisation and pollution. There was need for such kind of organisation to come in existence and work on the issues related to environmental conservation and sustainable development. PVK is committed towards giving the best solutions to the problems related to resource depletion and environment degradation by harmonizing the traditional wisdom and the state of the art technologies with suitable policy and efficient waste management practices. STRATEGIES:
Since its inception, PVK's activities and programmes have been rooted in, and guided by, certain strategies for maximisation of quality, effectiveness and impact:
• Informing community with state-of-the-art thinking, developments, innovations and perspectives in the areas of Environment and Sustainable Development.
• Adaptability to different geographic, cultural, social and economic contexts.
• Partnerships utilising complementary strengths of other organisations to avoid duplication of effort, and to network effectively for synergistic convergence of ideas and goals.
• Developing programmes and materials to build on existing strategic opportunities and facilities for EE.
• Building synergies between Government, NGOs and COMMUNITY for comprehensive impact.
• Identifying key entry points for different thrust areas, and key targets for initiating and consolidating gains, to achieve a multiplier effect .
• To view, sustainable development as an ongoing process instead of an end product. APPROACH:
The experience of PVK's team, supporters and advisors ranges from environmental science, policy and law, environmental engineering, biological and ecological sciences, legal activism, Gender experts, democratisation and decentralisation of processes, community organising, education and training, Natural Resources Management, Rural Development, Livelihood generation etc. Paryavaraniya Vikas Kendra is an organisation that has achieved high levels of participation in its activities from its Full Time Staff, Trustees, Volunteers and direct and indirect beneficiaries.
