All India Ho Language Action Committee is wishing you all a Happy International Mother Language Day 2026 (February 21) focuses on the theme "Youth voices on multilingual education," highlighting the role of young people in defending and revitalizing languages through technology and innovation, while ensuring inclusive, quality education for all.

International Mother Language Day is observed every year on 21 February to promote linguistic and cultural diversity around the world. It was proclaimed in 1999 by UNESCO to highlight the importance of preserving mother tongues and promoting multilingual education.

Today, there are more than 7,000 languages spoken worldwide, but nearly 40% of them are at risk of disappearing. UNESCO emphasizes that learning in one’s mother tongue improves understanding, confidence, and overall educational success.
Mother languages are not just tools of communication; they carry culture, identity, traditional knowledge, and history from one generation to the next.

International Mother Language Day reminds us that protecting languages means protecting cultural heritage and strengthening social inclusion.
