Chhattisgarh Social Audit Unit , Raipur

Chhattisgarh Social Audit Unit , Raipur Chhattisgarh State is implementing both Central and State sponsored welfare and developmental schemes on large scale for the benefit of poor.

The State Government often desires the transparency and accountability in implementation of these schemes. Taken the opportunity of Section 17 of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA, 2005) and Social Audit Rules of Ministry of Rural Development, the State Government has established an independent Social Audit Unit under Panchayat and Rural Development Department. Later,

the Social Audit Unit registered as ‘Chhattisgarh Social Audit Unit (CGSAU)’ and works in autonomy from mainstream administration. The CGSAU values the voices of poor including marginalized sections of society whose voices are rarely heard by the Government functionaries. At present, CGSAU is responsible for social auditing of MGNREGS, Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) and Mid-Day Meal and proposed to extend the audit process to Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), National Social Assistance Program (NSAP), National Rural Drinking Water Program (NRDWP), Integrated Watershed Management Program (IWMP) etc., in next few years.
