On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child (11 October), we are happy to share this documentary capturing the journey of the 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲—an initiative creating meaningful opportunities for first-generation female learners to pursue professional courses, develop skills, and move towards financial independence.

For many young women, the challenge is not a lack of talent or ambition, but the lack of access, guidance, and opportunities. Through the Bata Wings Scholarship Programme, we are working to bridge this gap by enabling girls to access professional education, build their careers, and become financially independent.

As we complete Phase 1 and embark on Phase 2 in the current financial year, our journey has reinforced a simple belief: when we invest in girls, we invest in their potential to transform not just their own lives, but also the futures of their families and communities.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the entire Bata India Limited and Bata Children Programme Team team for their continued trust and partnership in this journey. Together, we are building a cohort of confident, skilled, and independent young women who are ready to shape their own futures.

Bihar is home to nearly 9% of India’s population, yet its share of the country’s CSR expenditure remains less than 1.5%. This gap highlights the need for greater corporate engagement in a state where the development needs and opportunities are both immense.

Over the last two years, Janman People’s Foundation with the support of Bata India Limited / Bata Children Programme has been gradually building interventions in focused on girl child education and preventive health for adolescents.

As part of this ongoing collaboration, we recently conducted an informative health session at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Purnea, with support from medical professionals. The session focused on cervical cancer awareness, anaemia, and menstrual health and hygiene management. Hygiene kits were also distributed to all participating girls.

What makes partnerships like this particularly meaningful is the commitment to take CSR beyond conventional geographies and reach communities where the need is often greater but corporate presence remains limited.

We hope more corporates will see Bihar not merely as a state with significant development challenges, but as a space with immense potential for meaningful, measurable and sustainable social impact.

The art installation at Jan Nyay Samvaad 2026 presented an interdisciplinary exploration of gender justice and child protection by bringing together legal research and visual storytelling. Structured around landmark judgments and legislative developments spanning five decades, it traced the evolving relationship between law, social movements, and lived experience.

Across six thematic panels, the installation examined questions of consent, marriage, dowry, bodily autonomy, custodial violence, witch hunting, compensation, and the rights of children encountering the criminal justice system, situating legal developments within their broader social and institutional contexts. Rather than presenting legal doctrine in isolation, it explored how jurisprudence evolves in response to persistent demands for justice.

The visual language and illustrations for the installation were conceptualised and developed by Tahani Khan. It was ideated and scripted by Mugdha, Lead, Litigation and Research, and Shashwat, Co-founder of Janman People’s Foundation.

The installation was an effort to make legal scholarship more accessible while fostering informed public engagement with the evolving landscape of gender justice and child protection.

Jan Nyay Samvaad 2026 | Recognising Harm, Securing Justice and Ensuring Dignity | 27th June 2026 | Patna, Bihar

The day commenced with the inauguration of an exhibition that wove together legal research and visual storytelling. Hon’ble Justice Anjana Prakash, Former Judge, Patna High Court, delivered the keynote address, setting the stage for a series of thought provoking discussions on gender based violence, access to justice and institutional accountability.

Bringing together researchers, academics, lawyers, policymakers, practitioners, police officers, judges and civil society organisations, the Samvaad created a space for meaningful dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative action towards a more survivor centred system.

From intimate partner violence and survivor centred justice to the rights of incarcerated women, children of incarcerated parents, and community based protection systems, the discussions explored how institutions can work together to ensure dignity, accountability, and access to justice.

The day also featured a dedicated session on data and evidence, highlighting the importance of strengthening data systems and using evidence to inform policy and institutional responses to gender based violence ans child protection.

Thank you to all our speakers, partners, participants, and attendees for contributing to these important conversations.
