FROM PURI TO NEW YORK — THE SPIRIT OF RATHA JATRA TRAVELS THE WORLD 🇮🇳

The spirit of Odisha’s Ratha Jatra reached New York as renowned Chef Vikas Khanna celebrated the festival at Bungalow, his acclaimed Indian restaurant in New York City. 🛕✨

The restaurant was beautifully transformed with Odisha-inspired decorations, traditional elements and vibrant floral arrangements, creating a festive atmosphere dedicated to Mahaprabhu Jagannath.
The celebration also featured Odissi dance performances, bringing the grace and traditions of Odisha to an international audience. 💃🏽❤️

Adding to the celebration was Kanika, the traditional Odia sweet rice preparation, giving guests a taste of Odisha’s rich and unique culinary heritage. 🍚

From Puri’s Ratha Jatra to the streets of New York, this celebration beautifully showed how Odisha’s culture, traditions, dance and food continue to travel far beyond its borders.

A proud moment for every Odia — because Jagannath’s culture knows no boundaries. ❤️🛕

A Historic Honour for Lord Jagannath's Sacred Rathas! 🙏

In a landmark decision, President Droupadi Murmu has approved the permanent installation of one sacred wheel from each of the three chariots of the Puri Rath Yatra at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The sacred wheels of Nandighosha (Lord Jagannath), Taladhwaja (Lord Balabhadra), and Darpadalana (Devi Subhadra) will now become a lasting symbol of India's spiritual legacy and centuries-old cultural traditions.

This historic recognition reflects the growing national pride in the divine heritage of Jagannath Culture and the world-famous Puri Rath Yatra, preserving its significance for generations to come.

CHECK THE DETAILS👇

The Government of Odisha has taken a major step towards securing global recognition for Puri's iconic Ratha Yatra.

📜 Here's what happened:

🔸 Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has written to Union Minister for Culture & Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

🔸 In the letter, he requested the Central Government to support the nomination of Puri's Ratha Yatra for UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List.

🔸 The nomination proposal has been prepared and submitted by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).

🔸 According to the letter, all the required documents and supporting materials have already been submitted by SJTA.

🔸 The Chief Minister has requested the Ministry of Culture to examine the proposal at the earliest and forward India's official nomination to UNESCO.

🔸 The letter describes Ratha Yatra as much more than a festival—it represents India's spiritual heritage, centuries-old traditions, skilled craftsmanship, devotional music, dance, rituals, and the participation of millions of devotees every year.

🔸 The Odisha Government and SJTA have also assured full cooperation and promised to provide any additional information required during the nomination process.

🌍 If the nomination is approved by UNESCO, Puri's Ratha Yatra will receive international recognition as one of humanity's living cultural traditions, further strengthening its global identity and preserving its legacy for future generations.

🥮 Puri's Legendary Khaja Creates History!

During the 2026 Rath Yatra, Puri's iconic Khaja Mahaprasad witnessed an unprecedented surge in demand, with traders estimating sales exceeding ₹100 crore in just 10 days.

More than 30 lakh devotees visiting the holy city purchased this crispy, layered sweet from Srimandir Anand Bazaar, Adapa Mandap, and hundreds of Khaja shops across Puri. Many pilgrims even carried home 2–5 kg of Khaja, making it one of the biggest highlights of the festival.

Temple sources estimate that Khaja Mahaprasad worth over ₹40 crore was sold within the temple premises alone. As Puri Khaja gains nationwide recognition, traders and cultural enthusiasts are once again urging for a Geographical Indication (GI) tag to protect its authenticity and preserve its rich heritage.

🙏 A Record-Breaking Rath Yatra 2026

Puri witnessed an extraordinary celebration of faith this year as Rath Yatra 2026 drew an estimated 40–50 lakh devotees, making it one of the largest gatherings in recent years.

Compared to 35–40 lakh pilgrims in 2025, this year's festival reflected the ever-growing devotion towards Mahaprabhu Jagannath, with devotees arriving from every corner of India and across the world.

Despite intermittent rainfall, every major ritual—from Rath Yatra to the sacred Niladri Bije—was conducted smoothly, showcasing remarkable coordination by the temple administration and authorities.

The record turnout is not just a number; it is a powerful reminder that the faith in Lord Jagannath continues to grow with every passing year.
