“Safe Spaces – Not a Privilege, It’s a Right!”

✨ To celebrate the 36th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and International Child Rights Day, 25 children from 12 states came together for a two-day National Consultation of Children on 20–21 November 2025 in New Delhi.

The consultation celebrated diversity in language, culture, religion, and caste while amplifying children’s voices on their right to protection.

Children mapped the everyday spaces they navigate - homes, schools, playgrounds, social media platforms, transport, and various organizations and shared recommendations to make these spaces free from abuse, violence, harassment, and neglect—ensuring safety for every child in both public and private spaces.

TDH Germany and its partners stay committed to Empowering Children and ensuring their safety and well being .

✅ Because safe spaces are a right, not a privilege.

Dibakar grew up beside Kolkata’s dumping ground, where every day felt like a reminder that he didn’t belong. He loved makeup, he loved being himself—but the world answered only with ridicule, his father with anger, and his family with silence. When COVID-19 struck, he stood at traffic signals in a sari, begging to keep his family alive—yet still rejected for daring to exist. But one hand reached out. A project team spoke to his mother, who finally saw her child for who he truly was. With their support, Dibakar trained as a makeup artist. Today, he dreams of owning his own beauty parlor, walks proudly at q***r marches, and mentors others who once felt invisible like him. From rejection to resilience, Dibakar’s journey shines as proof: love and safe spaces can transform even the harshest realities into hope .

Preventing Migration, Securing Education: Praveen’s Journey
Praveen Narayan Jadhav, a sugarcane worker from the Banjara community, once faced the harsh reality of seasonal migration. Every year, his family had to move for sugarcane harvesting, which disrupted his children's education and forced them to drop out of school.
With the support of Marathwada Gramin Vikas Sanstha (MGVS), Praveen received training in poultry farming and completed a certificate course on January 22, 2025, in collaboration with a government-affiliated Farm Science Center.
He began with 60 birds and gradually expanded to 200, building a 10x20-feet shed. Today, he has a stable income, his family stays in the village, and most importantly, his children are back in school and learning consistently.
Praveen has committed to never migrating again. His story shows how timely support and sustainable livelihood opportunities can end forced migration and help secure a child’s right to education.

From Struggle to Strength: Zarina’s Journey
Born in 2020 in Chhattisgarh, little Zarina lost her mother at birth and was abandoned by her father. Raised by her aunt and uncle, she survived only on powdered milk and black tea.
In 2023, her family moved to Ladpura, Rajasthan, for work at a brick kiln. That’s when Zarina was connected to a health & nutrition centre supported by the HAQ-BMZ project.
At just 3 years old, she weighed only 3.1 kg. Her health was deteriorating, her skin showed red, bleeding spots — and her family couldn’t afford hospital care.
But hope arrived. The centre staff intervened — providing warm clothes, proper medical care, and a high-protein diet with boiled eggs. Slowly, Zarina began to heal.
Today, she weighs 5.1 kg, her skin has recovered, and she’s more active and energetic.
Zarina’s story is a powerful reminder: with compassion, care, and community support, even the most vulnerable lives can thrive.

Moonam Palli Youth Group Secures Bus Shelter and Tackles Health Crisis to Support Education
Moonam Palli, one of the focus villages under the "Break the Chain" initiative supported by BMZ, is witnessing a quiet but powerful transformation — led by its own youth. Among them, the youth group in Moonam Palli has emerged as a standout force, demonstrating how local action can create meaningful change.
From Heatstroke to Hope: A Shelter for Students
One of the most pressing issues affecting education in Moonam Palli was the absence of a bus stop shelter. Students waiting for transport were left exposed to extreme weather — sweltering heat in summer and heavy rains during monsoon — leading to frequent illnesses and school absences.
Recognizing this barrier, the youth group acted. On Independence Day, August 15, 2024, they submitted a petition to the Gram Sabha requesting the construction of a waiting shed. Although their first request went unanswered, they returned with renewed resolve on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, 2024, submitting a second petition.
Their persistence paid off.
Thanks to their advocacy, the construction of a new bus shelter is now underway, ensuring students can commute in safer, more dignified conditions — protected from the elements and ready to learn.
A Clean Start: Tackling Contaminated Water
While addressing infrastructure gaps, the youth group also identified a serious health concern. A pattern of frequent student absences due to illness prompted them to investigate. Their findings were alarming: the village's water tank hadn’t been cleaned for months, leading to widespread waterborne illnesses.
Acting swiftly, the youth group submitted a petition demanding immediate sanitation of the water tank. Their efforts succeeded — the tank was cleaned, significantly reducing health risks and enabling children to return to school healthier and more regularly.YouthEngagement
