A child running into a parent’s arms after months apart. Tiny victories inside our prison crèches. Women finding strength through therapy. And the many acts of kindness that make these moments possible.

Our July in Pictures. ❤️

July was a month of reunions, healing, learning, and meaningful partnerships across our Nanhe Kadam programmes.

Our Galabhet brought incarcerated parents and their children together for an emotional reunion, reaffirming the importance of preserving family bonds. Visiting children received educational materials, nutritious snacks, and other essential supplies like writing slates, chalk, and crayons.

The programme was attended by Superintendent Mr. Anil Khamkar, and other senior prison officials, who appreciated the initiative and expressed their support for future activities, strengthening our shared commitment to the well-being of women inmates and their children.

Another milestone was our first therapeutic group session, with almost 50 incarcerated mothers. The session created a safe and supportive environment for participants to reflect, express emotions, and build positive coping strategies. Through guided somatic activities, many mothers found moments of joy amidst the emotional challenges of prison life. Uniforms, raincoats, and hygiene kits were distributed to children living with their incarcerated mothers, and each participant received mandala colouring sheets to continue their self-care journey until the next session.

Our heartfelt thanks to Vandana Kapoor and the Unati Mandal Charity Trust for their generous contribution of stationery and hygiene kits for the children.

At our recent Galabhet Program at Nagpur Central Prison, nearly 200 children reunited with their incarcerated mothers and incarcerated fathers, sharing precious moments together after months apart.

While they waited, our team distributed stationery kits. The excitement was infectious as children proudly spoke about the drawings they planned to create with their new art supplies.

Then came the reunions. There were warm embraces, quiet tears, joyful laughter, and conversations that carried the weight of months spent apart.

A father quietly said, “Today, my heart is content,” after meeting his children.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Sh*tal Agarwal for volunteering to conduct a wonderful yoga session for our Nanhe Kadam children at the Byculla crèche. It brought smiles, movement, and calm to our children.

Ms. Sh*tal began with a warm, play-based introduction that quickly helped every child feel comfortable and emotionally secure. With simple, age-appropriate instructions and single-word cues, she guided the group through accessible yoga asanas so everyone could join in confidently. She used the familiar “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” game as an attention-reset tool, helping children refocus and practice self-regulation in a fun way. Throughout the session, the children stayed engaged, enthusiastic, and actively participative, building concentration, listening skills, confidence, and social connection through joyful, play-based learning.

At Nanhe Kadam, we design our curriculum to create better childhoods — blending emotional safety, inclusive activities, and playful learning to support holistic development. Sessions like these put our approach into action: promoting physical wellbeing, emotional resilience, and the social skills children need to thrive.

Every child deserves the essentials to learn, grow, and thrive.

As part of our outreach session at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad) Prison, children separated from their incarcerated parents received stationery and hygiene kits. These simple essentials help children continue learning with confidence, maintain good health and hygiene, and experience the dignity and care every child deserves.

At our recent Galabhet Program at Nagpur Central Prison, nearly 200 children reunited with their incarcerated mothers and fathers. While they waited patiently for their turn, our team distributed stationery kits that filled the room with smiles. Many excitedly shared that they couldn’t wait to go home and draw with their new supplies.

Then came the reunions.

There were hugs, laughter, and conversations that tried to make up for months apart. One father, overwhelmed after meeting his children, quietly said, “Today, my heart is content.”

A teenage daughter stood watching her father walk away, hoping he’d turn back for one last glance. As he continued walking, he discreetly wiped away his tears.

One mother shared that she had transformed the mandala art sheets from our earlier sessions into handmade greeting cards for her children. Another left us with words we’ll never forget:
“Today I realised how precious even one minute can be.”

Moments like these remind us why family connections matter. A parent’s sentence should never become a child’s punishment.

Through the Galabhet Program, we’re helping children and their incarcerated parents preserve bonds of love, hope, and belonging—even if only for a few precious minutes.

The greatest gift isn’t another present!

It’s giving a child the chance to laugh, play, learn, and simply be a child.

Hundreds of children spend their earliest years inside prison. They did nothing to deserve it, but together, we can make sure they don’t lose their childhood too.

Nanhe Kadam creates safe, joyful crèches inside women’s prisons, where children aged 0–6 can play, learn, read stories, make art, and experience the basics of childhood.
The programme also supports incarcerated mothers, helping strengthen the bond between mother and child during these critical early years.
