At Centre For Aquatic Livelihood | Jaljeevika, our goal has always been to turn potential into prosperity. For the past year, in collaboration with Vrutti -Livelihood Impact Partners we have been on an intensive journey mentoring and training the Daryawardi Producer Company Limited (DPCL)— a dynamic collective of Koli fisherwomen.
Our focus was :
- Product Development: Refining the "sea-to-plate" process and Value addition.

- Market Testing: Understanding urban demand in cities like Mumbai and Pune.

- Consumer Relations: Building the trust required for a niche seafood brand.

After a year of playing the role of mentors and trainers, we decided it was time for the ultimate test. We stepped out of our advisory shoes and into the role of the customer.
We placed an order for their fresh Surmai (King Fish) at pune, and the results were exceptional. Seeing these women manage the supply chain—from the catch to cleaning, cutting, and delivering a "full-plate" sized, fresh product to Pune—is a proud moment for us.

The verdict? Freshness you can taste, portions that impress, and prices that remain accessible.

🍽️ Your Turn to Taste the Coast!

Creating Spaces of Hope and Learning in Rural India

At the hashtag Seva Kendra, Village Veersagar, Block Shuklai, District Niwari, Madhya Pradesh, a quiet yet powerful movement is taking shape.

Suman Devi Kevat, a dedicated community member, has taken the inspiring step of offering free coaching classes to village children, right from her doorstep. With just a mat, a few notebooks, and a lot of love, she is helping children build the foundation for a better future.

These children come from the hashtag community, where access to consistent educational support is often limited. These sessions may look simple, but they carry the power to transform lives through education, encouragement, and equal opportunity.

At Jaljeevika, we believe in nurturing such grassroots leaders who are creating impact where it is needed most. And now, we invite you to be part of this journey.

We deeply appreciate the support of Herbalife International India Pvt. Ltd., whose contributions have helped make the Jaljeevika Seva Kendra a space of opportunity and learning for the community.

Let’s come together to ensure that learning never stops, no matter where a child lives.

On May 3rd 2025, we had the honour of hosting delegates from Paridhi Foundation at our Agroecology Centre in Dhamdaha, Purnea. Their visit marked an inspiring exchange of ideas around sustainable, integrated, and climate-resilient livelihood models that we are nurturing with local farming communities.

The team engaged deeply with our Integrated Farming System (IFS) model, observing practical demonstrations at our AquaSchool, nursery rearing units, and grow-out ponds — even witnessing live fish spawn in action! They also explored our innovative approach to Makhana cultivation using organic fertilizers, showcasing the integration of ecological practices with local knowledge.

Their journey continued through multiple demonstrations including:
🍄 Mushroom cultivation hut
☀️ Solar dryer
🌾 Multilayer farming plots
🐓 Duck and poultry farming units
🌿 Vermicomposting and horticulture blocks

During the technical sessions, Arjun ji, our subject expert, explained the importance of organic fertilizers and humic acid for soil regeneration and long-term farm health. Raman ji led a practical session on mushroom farming, providing hands-on knowledge to the visitors.

Our Jaljeevika experts also conducted engaging sessions on:
🔹 Multilayer farming
🔹 Multi-cropping techniques
🔹 Best Management Practices (BMPs)
🔹 Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems (RAS)
🔹 Biofloc technology

These technologies are simple, effective, and replicable — designed to enhance productivity for small and marginal farmers.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Paridhi Foundation for their visit and shared commitment to grassroots change. This workshop would not have been possible without the generous support of Herbalife and the dedicated efforts of our entire team, who made this experience truly meaningful.

Together, we continue to build knowledge-led, nature-aligned farming systems for a resilient future. 🌿

-Empowering Wetland Communities through Financial Literacy-

We're thrilled to share that Team Mau successfully organized a training program on financial literacy at Harvanshpur Village, Pakri Buzurg, Ghosi Block, Mau (UP).

This program was made possible with the support of the AROH Foundation team. The event focused key elements such as
‣ Financial Literacy Essentials

‣ Government Schemes: Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana, CM Yuva Udyami Abhiyan, Atal Pension Yojana, and several other useful schemes.

‣ Digital Safety: Protecting against digital fraud and importance of mobile OTP security.

‣ MSME Loans and opportunities for small-scale home-based businesses.

The engagement was impressive, with SHG women showing interest in water hyacinth-based craft work, mushroom cultivation, integrated farming and nutrition garden through agroecological approach which will not only provide them a steady income but also lead to the effective management and conservation of commons. Local youth and fishermen communities also participated enthusiastically.

As part of Jaljeevika 2.0's vision to strengthen wetlands and empower associated communities, we're working in the Pakri Tal wetland area to promote holistic ecosystem development and community well-being.

We're grateful for our supporter Bajaj Finserv CSR in this journey and Jaljeevika Mau team's efforts.

Together, let's continue empowering communities!
