Green Tara Foundation We are a foundation working across Pune, Maharashtra, dedicated to child rights, women empowerment, and girls education.

Since 2007 Green Tara has worked within communities to empower women and children. In 2007, Dr. Mune founded Green Tara Foundation with the help of friends. After being a medical doctor, it was a big change in her life, and the support of these friends was vital to the start of the project. As a child, Dr. Mune fought for her education and equality. She was moved from relative to relative after he

r mother died, until finding a place in a hostel. Dr. Mune has first-hand experience with these issues, helping her connect with and support the girls she works with every day. Along with her team of dedicated women, she continues to empower girls from the slums of Vishrantwadi, Pune. In 2007, the first GTF community met under a tree, learning key skills and health and nutrition. The location of the meeting continually changed due to not having a set place. Despite location challenges, the program received positive feedback from the girls, and GTF grew and grew. These successes brought government funding, vital to the continuation of the project. The girls from the first GTF meetings have since become adults with skills, knowledge, and confidence to take with them for life.

The girls in the community learned all about what a role model is and unseen impacts that role models make on your life. They did an activity acknowledging who their role models were and what they had in common with their role model to show them that they could be a role model to someone else too. And then they started the characteristics that their role models had that they wanted to work at being better at to show that everyone has room to grow and can always improve to be a better person

As an organization we encourage the youth to use their leadership skills for good, a group of young teen girls organized a rally against child marriage with our help.

These girls gathered together and decided that child was a problem in their community and that they could take action by raising awareness on this problem. They spoke to those in the community on why child marriage is harmful and needs to stop in hope of helping younger kids stay safe and stay in school.
