Adventures beyond Barriers Foundation is a Not for Profit organisation, that promotes inclusivity through enabling Persons with Disability and able bodied individuals to participate in adventure sports together. The underlying philosophy is that “You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

Currently, we have 5 verticals: Marathons/Running, Trekking/Mo

untaineering, Tandem Cycling, Paragliding and Scuba Diving. We hope to achieve this by creating appropriate conditions to establish interpersonal contact, and by enabling communication with one another, with a view to understand and appreciate different points of views involving each other’s ways of life. As a result of this new appreciation and understanding, issues of stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination between the groups should reduce and lead to long term social transformation. This will also help get persons with disability more visibility, which helps create awareness towards inclusion and accessibility.

It is not just about the run but the memories you share with the person you are running with. As Divyanshu says, all it takes is just asking “Hey, what is your story?”

ABBF had the privilege of bringing together PWDs and people of TATA autocomp to run a 5 KM marathon on the 17th of February at the beautiful campus of Savitribai Phule Pune University. The event, managed by , captured beautiful moments of people coming together, sharing stories while crossing milestones they never thought possible.

Kudos!!

Congratulations and a big shout out to our director Aparna Prabhudesai for completing a full marathon in Berlin on 24th September 2023, which is one amongst the six world majors. Aparna ran 42.2kms in 3:53:30!
Aparna is an achievement coach and a behavioural psychologist who facilitates workshops in the corporate and academic space under the banner of her firm Bodhivriksh. Her story is one of colossal strength, grit and determination. Aparna has always been an inspiring role model for countless people, both with and without disability.

With hearts full of empathy and a shared commitment to equity, we achieved a momentous triumph on the 15th July 2023, as we completed the trek to Tikona Fort with PwDs (Persons with Disabilities) and the TATA Autocomp employees.
This journey was more than reaching the fort's summit; it was about shattering stereotypes and attitudinal barriers around disability. It was about camaraderie that only sports can offer. Together, we proved that there are no limitations!

Our Story

ABBF (www.abbf.in) is a not for profit, based out of Pune, India, that promotes inclusion. Through adaptive adventure and outdoor sport initiatives, ABBF provides visibility for PwDs.

Our work is based on the belief that adventure and the outdoors have the power to positively transform people. Each of our inclusive adventures have shaken up social biases, sparked off empathy, and above all, inspired inclusion. Because of ABBF’s work so far, PwDs have begun to take up adventure sports, and have gained more supporters and employment than ever before. Currently, we work across five verticals—Marathons/Running, Trekking/Mountaineering, Tandem Cycling, Paragliding and Scuba Diving.

ABBF was founded by Divyanshu Ganatra—India’s first solo blind pilot, trekker, mountaineer, scuba diver, marathoner, and the first blind pillion cyclist to ride from Manali to Khardung La (the highest motorable road in the world). Oh, he is also a clinical psychologist, two-time entrepreneur, IT guy and public speaker.
