I knew I wanted to come to Sangam before I knew I wanted to become a Tare. But now that I have finished my 6-week Community Programme, it feels like the most fitting way I could have got involved with WAGGGS. I was paired with the Green Tara Foundation Pune, a women's empowerment organisation, and spent my days at one of their safe spaces, where neighbourhood children come to play and feel secure.

Despite my years of experience working with kids, I felt like an intruder in a space that wasn't mine at first. That changed slowly: mornings were spent helping with admin work and afternoons were spent getting to know the children.

One moment shifted everything. I met a staff member who had grown up coming to that very safe space as a child and who remembered Sangam Tares visiting years before. When I asked her what she thought the kids needed most from us, she said, 'Just share your confidence.' I hadn't realised that simply being present was the cultural exchange.

Over the weeks of playing games, running sessions and simply showing up, my fellow Tare and I built real, lasting bonds with the children. I hope I left something behind for the children I got to know, but I know without a doubt that they changed me.

I knew I wanted to come to India before I knew I wanted to come to Sangam. My dad's side of the family is South Indian, but I grew up dividing my time between India and the US. In the States, I was often seen as Indian, whereas in India, I was seen as American. I never quite picked up a single set of traditions I could call “my country”. Coming to India was, in a way, about trying to connect with a culture.

What I found instead surprised me. There is no such thing as a single 'Indian' culture, and I didn't need to be Indian to be in India. Living alongside guides from all over the world at Sangam, I realised that I didn't need one set of customs to belong. We could be from different places and simply be together.

It was the idea of Sangam — "coming together" — that carried me into the my time at Sangam.

And yet every single time, we see the same thing. A desire to grow. To lead. To belong to something bigger than themselves. ✨

This International Youth Day, we celebrate every young person reaching for exactly that. 🐘

Hi! I'm Cami, and I'm from Bolivia. 😊🇧🇴
I consider Sangam to be my home in the country I’ve always dreamt of. Coming as a Tare, was a very special experience.

Living at Sangam, sharing with amazing women, and making friends from different parts of the world is wonderful. But even more wonderful is going to my Community Partner, Green Tara Foundation Pune , every day and getting to know Indian culture more closely.

With the girls, I learned a little Hindi, listened to their laughter, and shared many special moments. Together, we talked about emotions, about being ourselves, and about being kind to ourselves and to others, because these small actions can make our little worlds better.

We coloured, danced, played, and, most importantly, learned from each other. Spending time with them has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. In the small classroom where we worked, you could really feel the love and friendship between all the girls.

Hola, soy Cami y soy boliviana. 😊🇧🇴

The Spices might have settled, but the adventures did not. ✨

Magic Masala was exactly that, a week full of magic. From stepping into the Sangam kitchen to braving the Pune monsoon, the participants threw themselves into soaking up everything India and Sangam had to offer. Sure, they left a little more seasoned... 🌶️

Closing the month, we get to celebrate a World Centre that started the journey for the rest of us. 💙🎉

Happy Birthday to Our Chalet, the very first WAGGGS World Centre. Since opening its doors in 1932, Our Chalet has welcomed generations of Guides and Girl Scouts from around the world, creating a legacy of adventure, friendship, and international sisterhood that continues to inspire every World Centre today.

As the third World Centre birthday we're celebrating this month, we're grateful for the path Our Chalet paved and the global community it helped build. Here's to 94 years of unforgettable memories, life-changing experiences, and bringing the world together—one visitor at a time.

Happy Birthday, Our Chalet! 🏔️💙
