Connecting NGO

Connecting NGO We are committed to the cause of suicide prevention and mental health! Ours is a volunteer run organization.

'Every Life Counts"
Connecting TRUST was formed in July 2005 by a group of concerned citizens under the guidance of Arnavaz Damania. The group has a fervent desire to extend support to those experiencing emotional distress. Several trained volunteers contribute their time and effort to the cause, making it possible for Connecting TRUST to expand both the scope as well as the reach of its work in t

he field of Suicide Prevention. DISTRESS HELPLINE
The helpline is for those in emotional distress or feeling suicidal, provides a space where the volunteer listens to the caller in an accepting, non-judgemental and non-advisory way, maintaining confidentiality and anonymity. It is open from 10 am to 8 pm on all days

OUTREACH PROGRAMME
The Outreach Programmes are for sensitizing one to issues related to Emotional Awareness and Suicide – how to identify signs of stress, distress or feeling suicidal; how to help someone feeling suicidal; how to care for someone who has had a suicide loss. These activity-based programmes of about 50-60 minutes, conducted for children, adolescents and adults at schools, colleges, corporate companies, housing societies, slums, NGOs, and other community setups are adapted to the needs of the group and facilitated by volunteers. PEER EDUCATION PROGRAMME
The Peer Education Programme is for creating caring communities in schools, colleges and other community setups by raising awareness about suicide prevention in a peer group. In this long-term programme, volunteers facilitate the process of sensitization of a select group of participants from a community to issues related to suicide prevention, and enhancement of their listening, self care and life skills. The participants (’peer educators’) then become the catalysts for spreading this awareness and empowering their communities. The regular meetings of peer educators in each community are guided and facilitated by a dedicated set of volunteers for that community. SUICIDE SURVIVOR SUPPORT PROGRAMME
We offer individual emotional support to anyone who has attempted suicide and survived or has lost someone to Suicide, individually through our SSP helpline service, and through Listening Circles for group support. VOLUNTEER TRAINING
Connecting TRUST tries to meet the existing gap of the dearth of the mental health professionals by training people from all walks of life. When volunteers join in from all walks of life, it represents a joining in from all sections of society towards the cause or providing emotional support to people in distress and suicide prevention.

Everyone carries pain that they may hardly ever speak about.

Let’s be empathetic and offer them our compassionate presence.

Through our Peer Educators Programme, we aim to connect with the student community so they can share their feelings, thoughts, fears and distress and become aware about emotions.

Every time we facilitate a session in a school/ college, the feedback of students humbles us knowing that our work touched a chord with them.

We hope to form strong connections with students so they know they have a compassionate, safe space where they will be heard, understood and not judged.

On International Self-care Day today, let’s understand the importance of learning about self-care at a very young age.

Children carry an entire world within them, of thoughts, feelings, fears, secrets, and every other thing that leaves a mark on them.

Let’s try to understand them.
Let’s be kind with them.
Let’s be with them whenever they feel low and lost.

When a child or any other person dies by su***de, multiple factors are at play.

Emotional pain and lack of support system for a prolonged period provoke a person to consider su***de.

The most important thing that we can start with is becoming aware of mental and emotional health.

Then we need to work towards su***de prevention and making mental health care accessible.

Let's come together to build caring and compassionate communities.

At Connecting, we endeavour to reach out to different communities to offer them a safe space where they can feel free to share their fears and pain.

The nursing staff is always seen offering care to those in need. Very often, we tend to neglect our own self-care and avoid sharing our deepest thoughts and feelings with anyone.

We facilitated awareness sessions on emotional awareness and su***de at The Poona Hospital and KEM Hospital recently for the nursing staff.

So, it’s important that we have more conversations around mental health and su***de prevention and understand self-care.

In our everyday life, let’s try to listen to others wholeheartedly and be empathetic.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is becoming a meaningful platform for conversations around mental and emotional health.

This is exactly what will help destigmatise the work and conversations around mental health.

Let’s come together to work towards the cause of mental health.

Children are our hope for tomorrow. But, are we nurturing the young minds holistically?

In our work for the cause of su***de prevention and mental health, children play a major role.

Through our Peer Educators Programme, we aim to build student communities that are trained and equipped with the skills, understanding, and empathy required to provide support to peers who are feeling low and distressed.

SP Yannuwar, Principal, Sardar Dastur Nosherwan Girls’ High School, shares her heartfelt testimonial about our PEP programme.

We are grateful for the trust the school has put in us over the years.

This further strengthens our mission of creating compassionate and caring communities.

We are glad to find the support of Bajaj Finserv for our PEP programme.

We hope to associate with many more schools across Pune, so together we can nurture the emotional and mental well-being of children.

Some people, in their own unique style, while maintaining high energy levels, make any work-related session fun and engaging.

Dr Gayatri Kotbagi (PhD Psychology), Assistant Professor, FLAME University, recently facilitated a session on “Shifting Landscape of Education System”, for the Connecting Trust volunteers.

She offered valuable perspectives on up-skilling ourselves to navigate the mental health landscape of today’s student community.

Sharing anecdotes, facts, studies, and transporting the participants back to their childhood, she kept it interactive. For example, she stated that if Van Gogh could go to a psychiatrist back then, what is stopping us today if we felt the need?

Much to think about and work together on.
