Traditional Indian Boat-Making | Indigenous Science in Action

What looks like a magnificent traditional boat is, in fact, a remarkable example of indigenous science, engineering and sustainable design.

The traditional Kerala Snake Boat (Chundan Vallam) embodies centuries of knowledge passed down through generations—combining locally available materials, hydrodynamic design, human engineering and deep adaptation to the environment.

🌿 Natural Materials – Durable local woods and traditional treatments
🌊 Hydrodynamic Design – A long, narrow hull designed for speed and reduced water resistance
🤝 Human Engineering – Synchronised rowing transforms collective effort into powerful motion
🍃 Environmental Adaptation – A flexible, shallow-draft design suited to Kerala’s waterways

It is more than a boat—it is science preserved through tradition and a powerful reminder that sustainable innovation can emerge from indigenous knowledge.

🌕🚀 From Chandrayaan-1 to Chandrayaan-3: India’s Journey to the Moon

India’s Chandrayaan missions have marked remarkable milestones in the nation’s journey of space exploration.

🔹 Chandrayaan-1 — strengthened our understanding of the Moon and provided significant evidence of water molecules on the lunar surface.

🔹 Chandrayaan-2 — advanced India’s capabilities in lunar exploration with an orbiter that continues to contribute valuable scientific data.

🔹 Chandrayaan-3 — achieved a historic soft landing near the Moon’s South Pole, making India the first nation to successfully land in the region.

These missions are more than scientific achievements — they represent Indian ingenuity, indigenous technology, perseverance and the spirit to explore the unknown.

🇮🇳 From dreams to discovery.
From Earth to the Moon.
India is reaching for the stars.

Vijnana Bharati salutes the scientists and engineers who continue to take India’s space journey forward.
