🌱*Say No to Single-Use Plastic!* 🌱

*The Interact Club of Dasve Public School, Lavasa,* conducted an engaging awareness drive to promote the use of *paper bags as an eco-friendly alternative* to single-use plastic.

Our young Interactors distributed *150 paper bags* to market vendors and interacted with parents and visitors, spreading the message of responsible and sustainable choices. An inspiring awareness dance and poem added creativity and impact to the campaign.

Heartfelt appreciation to our Principal, all the teachers, and Mrs. Priyanka Zore for their valuable guidance and for beautifully executing the awareness dance.

👏 Kudos to our young Interactors for taking a meaningful step towards a cleaner and greener environment!

Eye Checkup Camps — St. Clare's School

18th and 21st September 2026

RCPC's ongoing eye care initiative, in partnership with Community Eye Care Vision, held two camps this round at St. Clare's School, Quarter Gate, on the 18th and 21st of September, with Rtn. Oni Kakajiwala present to represent RCPC, alongside Kareema Shaikh, Rohit Singh, Vaishnavi, Shahista, Shrishti, and Shika from Community Eye Care Vision. A total of 749 students were examined across both days, and the camp was carried out smoothly, with the screening and examination process completed efficiently as planned. Of those examined, 650 were found to have normal vision, 85 were recommended for spectacles, and 14 were referred for further evaluation.

Fellowship Meeting | Poona Club, Conference Hall No. 2 | 13 September 2026

RCPC welcomed Commodore (Prof.) Shrikant Deshmukh, NM (Retd.), a 32-year Indian Navy veteran who has served as Principal Director at Naval Headquarters and today advises the defence and high-tech manufacturing sector around Pune.

Framing his talk with a verse from the Gita and the atomic structure of copper as a metaphor, he mapped India's geopolitical concerns outward from its neighbourhood: Belt and Road pressures in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan, choke points such as Hormuz and the South China Sea, soft power partnerships with Japan and Australia, and deeper engagement with the Global South. He closed on the importance of communicating with India's youth and the role of media, ending with Sun Tzu on preparedness. 🎖️

President Rtn. Cmde. Parvin Kumar Malhotra and Hon. Secretary Rtn. Lt. Col. Julius Rocque (Retd.) opened the proceedings. PP Rtn. Dr. Nasir Kazi spoke about the successful Interact Club installations at Anjuman-I-Islam's institutions, sharing a handwritten note of appreciation to the President and RCPC signed by the students. Rtn. Air Cmde. Pankaj Mehrotra, VSM (Retd.), acknowledged Rtn. Surendra Shroff, the "Paper Bag Man," for his contribution to the paper bag initiative at Dasve Public School, Lavasa, with an appeal to Rotarians to visit and support the children involved. PP Rtn. Cmde. Ajay Chitnis introduced the speaker, and Air Cmde. Mehrotra proposed the vote of thanks.

The morning ended with fellowship and a splendid spread of chaat and lunch curated by PP Rtn. Sukhminder Kalra, which delighted everyone. Our thanks to Rtn. Nitin Rajore for organising the programme. 🙏

Rtn. Minal Kering visited the Hinjewadi centre of Tara Mobile Creches Pune (TMCP) on Sunday, 20th September 2026 as a continuation of the year-long series on life skills and counseling session for the children.

TMCP's vision since their inception in 1980, is to ensure that the children on construction sites have a happy, safe and nurtured childhood. The centres are created on the site itself until the duration of the project.

This session was on Creative and Critical Thinking, for the children aged between 12-16 years.

Highlights are as follows:

- It started with a recap of the last session conducted on Social and Emotional Learning.
- ⁠This session focused on thinking differently, opening our minds to many possibilities and asking questions.
- There were game based activities such as "One object, many possibilities", story-based activities on “Choose your own story ending”, group games such as "Cross the river", and reflective conversations around "being curious, being surprised and being open to more ideas and thinking differently".
- The group session ended with a feedback circle in which the children shared what they enjoyed, what they learned in the session.

🎙️ Two Saturdays, Two Speakers 🎙️
RCPC Fellowship Sessions | 29 August & 5 September 2026

Fit After 50 — Ms. Priya Jain, a senior nutritionist and health coach with over twenty years of experience, spoke on staying strong, energetic and independent in later years, without extreme diets or quick fixes. She took apart common myths around metabolism, weight loss and ageing, and returned repeatedly to muscle strength, mobility and balanced nutrition. Her own journey grounded everything she shared, and members had so many questions that the evening turned thoroughly interactive. 💪

RCPC also inducted its newest member that evening, Captain Superintendent Gopi Shetty Maliyadri. Welcome to the family, Captain! 🎉

AI in Education — On Teacher's Day, Mr. Krishna Ramaswami spoke about how education is the world's largest live experiment in human-AI collaboration, and a preview of what is coming to every field. Drawing on Khan Academy's Khanmigo and Georgia Tech's Jill Watson, he showed how AI absorbs the routine work while discernment, judgement and the reading of context remain firmly human. AI did not replace the teacher in any of these cases; it freed the teacher for what only a person can do. His point that governance, not technology, is the real bottleneck was one the room took seriously. 🤖
