Vigyan Ashram, Pabal Vigyan Ashram is started by a scientist turned educationalist Late Dr.S.S.Kalbag started Vigyan Ashram in 1983. Management of Vigyan Ashram comprises of Mr.

Vigyan Ashram is implementing 'Rural Development Through Education System' conceived by Dr.Kalbag. Vigyan Ashram is a village based based voluntary organization with focus on Work centric education, development of enterprise development and rural technology. Vigyan Ashram (VA) is a core supported organization of Dept of science and Technology ( DST ). Vigyan Ashram has developed several rural technologies and is training rural youth for various vocation. VA belives in use of technology to increase productivity and pace of rural development. It has developed a comprehensive program called RDES (Rural Development through Education System). The program is given in both formal mode and non formal mode of education. Currently the program covers more than 72 high schools and approx 300 vilages benefiting more than 5000 students every year. For us “Vigyan” means ‘Search of Truth’ and “Ashram” symbolises ‘Simple living and High thinking for us, a organization where all are equal, it’s a modern version of old Gurukul system’. Over the year Vigyan Ashram develops a complete program for giving training to the youth in rural and urban areas. Vigyan Ashram developed several innovative technologies and successfully commercialized them by training school dropouts. To increase the pace and quality of our education delivery system, ashram adopted new information technology. Many Govt and Private organization and individual donor supported the programs of ashram. Few of the organization which supported us are “Dept of Science & Technology” , "ASHA for Education", Praj Foundation, Eton foundation, LTI CSR "MHRD "etc. Vijay Kumar (M. Des), Mr. Ashok Kalbag (M. Tech) and Yogesh Kulkarni (Executive Director), Mr.Mahendra Rajgude, Mrs Anjali Chipalkatti and board representatives of IIE. Vigyan Ashram is implemented under 'Skills Training for Advancement of Rural Socieites forum' - STARs forum. Vigyan Ashram is located in village Pabal approx 70 kms from Pune. Its situated on Rajgurunagar - Shirur Road. Population of Pabal is @ 10000. There are several small hamlets attached to Pabal which make Pabal central market place. Pabal is drought prone and its truly representative Indian village. Idea of establishing Vigyan Ashram at Pabal is whatever we do at Ashram can be replicated in any part of the country.

On the 23th August 2026, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath ji, along with Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri Brajesh Pathak ji and Shri Sandeep Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Basic Education, visited the Learning By Doing (LBD) stall at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Lucknow. The students demonstrated working models developed in their LBD Labs and explained their work, which was highly appreciated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister. Vigyan Ashram Technologies Foundation is providing technical support for the LBD programme.

The Design Innovation Centre (DIC), Vigyan Ashram, has developed a compact grain disinfecter based on the Vibro-Thermal Disinfestation (VTD) concept—a chemical-free approach to protecting stored grains from storage pests.

🔥⚙️ The system combines controlled heat and vibration to effectively disinfest grains while supporting longer shelf life and better grain quality.

🔬 From Design to Performance
During development, the DIC team optimized key parameters such as:
• Grain flow
• Vibration transmission
• Tray inclination
• Grain residence time

These improvements increased the grain residence time from 75 seconds to over 8 minutes, enabling effective thermal disinfestation without chemical treatment.

Despite its compact design, the machine can process significant quantities of grain, making it suitable for:

The Design Innovation Centre (DIC), Vigyan Ashram has developed an Improved Onion Storage Unit that uses an optimized forced ventilation system to reduce post-harvest losses and extend the shelf life of stored onions.

The system maintains controlled airflow to minimize heat and moisture accumulation, creating favourable storage conditions that reduce spoilage while preserving onion quality.

A 1-tonne comparative trial against a conventional naturally ventilated storage unit demonstrated significant improvements, including a 30% reduction in onion rotting (14.36 kg to 10 kg), reduced flake formation, and nearly 70% lower rotting in the bottom layer, where spoilage is typically the highest. The unit also incorporates real-time monitoring of temperature, humidity, CO₂, and H₂S, enabling data-driven storage management and early detection of spoilage conditions.

This innovation provides a practical and sustainable solution for farmers, FPOs, and onion storage facilities, helping improve storage efficiency, reduce post-harvest losses, and increase the marketable yield of onions.

The Design Innovation Centre (DIC), Vigyan Ashram is conducting a research project to assess the feasibility of Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption and charging infrastructure planning in Pabal village.

🔍 As part of the study, a Vigyan Ashram intern is undertaking:
• Field surveys and data collection
• Stakeholder interactions and interviews
• Visits to EV showrooms and charging stations
• Assessment of electrical substations and existing infrastructure
• Study of current EV adoption trends and future requirements

📊 Preliminary Findings

The survey indicates that current public charging demand is relatively limited, as many electric two-wheeler users prefer home charging. However, with the increasing adoption of EVs, the demand for accessible and reliable public charging infrastructure is expected to grow.

💡 Why This Matters

The study highlights the importance of developing planned, future-ready EV charging infrastructure in rural areas—supporting the transition towards cleaner transportation and sustainable mobility.

कृतीतून कौशल्यांकडे -व्यावसायिक शिक्षणाची अंमलबजावणी करण्याकरिता शिक्षक प्रशिक्षण

विज्ञान आश्रम, पाबळ येथे ४५ शिक्षकांचे तीन दिवसीय निवासी, प्रत्यक्ष कृतीवर आधारित प्रशिक्षण यशस्वीरीत्या पार पडले.या प्रशिक्षणामध्ये व्यावसायिक शिक्षणाची ओळख, शिवण्याच्या पद्धती, प्रकल्प घेण्याची पद्धत आणि मूल्यमापन याबरोबरच विविध प्रत्यक्ष कृतींचा अनुभव शिक्षकांनी घेतला.

प्रमुख प्रकल्पांमध्ये Life Form – Hydroponics, Machine & Material – Woodworking आणि Human Service – Cooking Without Fire यांचा समावेश होता.यासोबतच 3D Printing, DC Torch, Chocolate Making, Basic Electronics, Paper Circuit, Embroidery आणि Tie & Dye अशा विविध उपक्रमांमधून शिक्षकांनी शिकत-करत अनुभव घेतला.

The Plant Tissue Culture Lab at Vigyan Ashram, within the Design Innovation Centre (DIC), is working towards sustainable and innovative approaches to plant propagation.

🔬 Our dedicated DIC Fellows have successfully developed and standardized tissue culture protocols for Aglaonema—a popular ornamental foliage plant known for its attractive leaves, adaptability, low maintenance, and ability to thrive in low-light conditions.

✨ Key Achievements:
• Successfully established healthy in vitro plantlets
• Optimized the initial stages of rapid plant regeneration
• Working towards improving multiplication efficiency
• Focusing on genetic uniformity and disease-free planting material
• Developing approaches suitable for large-scale plant production

Aglaonema is one of the most preferred indoor ornamental plants due to its attractive foliage, minimal maintenance requirements, and adaptability to indoor environments.

आमच्यासाठी अभिमानाचा क्षण!

विज्ञान आश्रम, पाबळ येथे आयोजित दोन दिवसीय विज्ञान प्रदर्शनाला राज्यभरातून मिळालेल्या उत्स्फूर्त प्रतिसादाची दखल प्रसारमाध्यमांनी घेतली, ही आमच्यासाठी अत्यंत आनंदाची आणि प्रेरणादायी बाब आहे.
विद्यार्थ्यांच्या १५५ नाविन्यपूर्ण प्रयोगांमधून सर्जनशीलता, वैज्ञानिक दृष्टिकोन आणि "करून शिकणे" या शिक्षणपद्धतीची प्रभावी झलक पाहायला मिळाली. हजारो विद्यार्थी, शिक्षक, पालक आणि मान्यवरांच्या उपस्थितीने हा उपक्रम अधिक समृद्ध झाला.
