2โ4 February 2026 | Belt Wrestling and Mas-Wrestling featured in Maharashtra Government State School Championship (U-19)
Belt Wrestling and Mas-Wrestling has achieved a significant milestone in India with its official inclusion in the Maharashtra Government State School Belt Wrestling & Mas-Wrestling Championship (Under-19 Boys & Girls), scheduled to be held from 2nd to 4th February 2026 in Ahilyanagar District, Maharashtra.
The championship is organized and officially recognized by the Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Maharashtra, and supervised at the district level by the District Sports Office, Ahilyanagar. The event will be hosted at Late Hajare Patil Secondary & Higher Secondary School, Fata, Taluka Newasa, District Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra.
The competitions are conducted under the technical and financial assistance of the State Traditional Wrestling Association (Maharashtra), a recognized member of the All India Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Federation (AITWPF), which is a member of United World Wrestling (UWW - recognized by International Olympic Committee) and the International Mas-Wrestling Federation (IMWF).
Structured Participation at School Level:
Belt Wrestling and Mas-Wrestling competitions will be held in the Under-19 category for both boys and girls, featuring 8 zonal teams from Maharashtra, selected through district school games conducted across all 36 districts of the state.
Each zone will be represented by:
Boys: 8+8 athletes in each Belt Wrestling & Mas-Wrestling disciplines per zone.
Girls: 6+6 athletes in each Belt Wrestling & Mas-Wrestling disciplines per zone.
The inclusion of Belt Wrestling and Mas-Wrestling in a government-organized and officially recognized state-level school championship represents a major boost to grassroots Belt Wrestling and Mas-Wrestling development in India, strengthening the sportโs integration into the formal school sports system and providing young athletes with early exposure to structured and regulated competition.
