Okay, so leaving your comfort zone? Yeah, it's basically like trying to fold a fitted sheet π§Ί β everyone says they know how, but... is anyone really doing it right? We're drowning in motivational quotes online π±, which is great, except they don't magically make you act. Surprise! That's on us π€·. Action speaks louder than words, not only to the people around but, most importantly, to the inner self.
Six years back, I decided to join Toastmasters (Toastmasters International) π£οΈ, which was basically me signing up for moving away from my Comfort Zone π
. I'd already decided I was "not a stage person" based on... past experiences π¬. Let's just say they involved a lot of awkward silences πΆβπ«οΈ. Anyway, fast forward β©, and I can actually talk to people now, without breaking into a cold sweat π
. Small victories, people! π
So, I'm better than where I was a few years back, progress, right? β
So what's next? π€ There's a reason why I didn't touch this path called 'Engaging Humour' π€£ even after completing three paths in the Toastmasters Education Program π. Me? Funny? π€¨ I thought my sense of humor was more 'reading a user manual' π than 'stand-up special' π€. But, in the spirit of 'what's the worst that could happen?' π€· I went for it! Turns out, even I could make a few people chuckle π, which was a nice change from the usual polite nods π I get.
Fifteen humour-sprinkled speeches later π₯³, I finished the path π. Am I a comic now? Nope π
. Still mostly serious π. But, I'm definitely less scared of being slightly ridiculous in front of people, and that's progress π. The learning and growth always resides just beyond the edge of our comfort zones π. And that, my friends, is where the real fun begins! π₯³
