When determination meets opportunity, stories like these are born… 💫
Today, UWA Pune had the privilege of being part of a truly inspiring meet-up with graduate women from rural Pune, beautifully facilitated by Gnyaan Prabodhini Trust, who have been tirelessly working at the grassroots for years.
We met 27 incredible women from 20 villages — women who chose education after marriage, after children, and completed their graduation at the age of 35–36.
Some even carried their little ones to exam halls.
What does being a graduate mean to them?
✔️ Their voice is heard in the family
✔️ Their confidence has transformed
✔️ They dream bigger for their children
One powerful moment that stayed with us —
A woman proudly shared:
“My husband is a BA, but my son will be an MBBS.”
Reality Check
• 108 villages | Population: 60,000+ | Only 47 graduate women
• Just 2 colleges across these villages
• Free education exists… but no transport to reach it
• Poor roads, high travel costs, and lack of access continue to be barriers
Despite all odds, the work of Gnyaan Prabodhini is creating real change.
And today marks a proud beginning —
UWA Pune launches its Rural Graduate Women Group
A first-of-its-kind Urban–Rural connect to empower more women through education.
Way Forward
• Identify 12th pass women in villages
• Enable access to colleges
Immediate Need: Mobility Sponsorship
Until infrastructure improves, we need support to help these women reach education.
