Full-time Engineer, Lifetime Musician!🪕

Sameep Kulkarni is the proud torchbearer of the cultural legacy of the Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT), Pune. A VIT instrumentation engineer, Sameep started learning the tabla as a toddler and fell in love with the sitar shortly after. His parents took him to an Ustad Vilayat Khan concert, and he was hooked. Since then, he has gone on to perform in over 2,000 concerts across the world. He has even played on tracks that have been used in Hollywood films. His passion for the sitar is unparalleled. But what makes his journey truly remarkable is the immaculate balance he has been able to strike between his passion and his profession. He is a role model for students who aspire to pursue both their passion and a professional career. 🤝

In this baithak-style podcast, recorded in the studio at Vishwakarma University, Pune, we get to know an artist and an engineer who is steadfast in his devotion to music and pragmatic about his career. Towards the end, he has a musical surprise for us inspired by his time at VIT, Pune.✨

Our next guest, Sameep Kulkarni, started learning the tabla at the age of three and the sitar at the age of seven. Since then, he has gone on to perform in more than 2,000 concerts across the world.🎶

A proud alumnus of Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune, Sameep developed his love for live performance through Firodiya Karandak and other competitions, where he was an integral part of the cultural scene.✨

On the one hand, Sameep has remained steadfast in his devotion to Indian classical music and his first love, the sitar. On the other, he has built a successful career in the IT industry, putting his engineering degree to excellent use.

In a world where each of us is constantly striving to strike the perfect work-life balance, there is much to learn from this musical engineer.🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

A dyed-in-the-wool teacher who has shaped generations of students with a strict hand and a heart of gold. So much so that he is fondly remembered at every reunion, across every generation.🫱🏼‍🫲🏽
