✨ An Inspiring Evening with Guru Charan Girdhar Chand Ji ✨

Listening to Guru Charan Girdhar Chand Ji was a deeply moving and nostalgic experience. It brought back cherished memories of my own training under the guidance of the late Guru Tej Prakash Tulsi Ji, his younger brother. 🙏

Guruji’s words were inspiring, energising, and truly electrifying. His insightful reflections on Kathak filled the audience with positivity, enthusiasm, and renewed hope for the future of this timeless art form. 💫

What stands out most is his kind, generous, and graceful persona—qualities inherited from his revered father and Guru, Nrityacharya Pt. Narayan Prasad Ji. 🌺

Guru Chand Ji’s profound knowledge, wisdom, and unparalleled command over Kathak continue to inspire generations of artists and rasikas alike. His presence is a reminder of the rich legacy, discipline, and artistic excellence that define this beautiful tradition. 🕉️💃

Grateful for the opportunity to listen, learn, and be inspired. ✨

✨ **Saanidhya 2026 – Day 7 Highlights** ✨

*Co-curated and coordinated by Madhura Phatak - Founder of Purnaa Arts*

The 7th day of the *Saanidhya Talk Series with Veteran Gurus of Kathak and Folk Traditions* continued at the South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), Nagpur, drawing an enthusiastic audience eager to delve deeper into the nuances of Kathak and traditional art forms.

The day began with an engaging conversation between Madhura Phatak and renowned Kathak exponent Guru Rani Khanam Ji, focusing on the essential aspects of *Taalim, Lay, and Upaj* (training, rhythm, and improvisation). Guru Rani Khanam Ji shared valuable insights into the discipline of practice, explaining techniques that help dancers develop command over rhythm through breath control, precision, and creative variations.

The following session offered the audience an inspiring glimpse into the artistic journeys of the programme’s conceptualizers and coordinators — Madhura Phatak, senior disciple of Guru Padmashri Shovana Narayan, and Astha Karlekar, disciple and daughter of Guru Savita Godbole. Their experiences, learnings, and dedication to the art form resonated deeply with the participants.

The evening concluded with a captivating presentation on the folk storytelling tradition of *Kirtan* from Maharashtra by Mrinmayee Kulkarni, who shared her rich experience of over 24 years in the field, bringing the essence of this vibrant tradition to life.

🌸 **Tomorrow at Saanidhya:**
An interactive conversation between Madhura Phatak and Dr. Chitra Sharma, distinguished Kathak scholar, author, critic, and researcher, exploring the fascinating relationship between *Kathak and Literature*. The audience will also witness *Gondhal*, a vibrant and powerful folk tradition of Maharashtra.

✨ **An Unforgettable Encounter with a Living Legend** ✨ It was a rare honor and privilege to welcome **Guru Padmashri Ram Lal** of the renowned **Raigarh Gharana**. As part of the **Saanidhya Talk Series**, I had the opportunity to lead an insightful conversation on behalf of the **South Central Zone Cultural Centre**. The interaction was deeply enriching—filled with wisdom, learning, and invaluable insights from a remarkable life dedicated to Kathak. At the age of 90+, Ramlalji continues to inspire with his sharp memory and vivid recollections of his early years in the royal court of **Raja Chakradhar Singh**. His anecdotes, spanning over eight decades of artistic journey, were captivating and enlightening. Listening to his experiences, dedication, and passion for preserving the traditions of Kathak was truly inspiring. He stands as a beacon of perseverance and artistic excellence, much like my revered Guru, **Padmashri Shovana Narayan**, whose guidance continues to illuminate the path for countless disciples. 🙏 Grateful for this opportunity to learn from a legend and celebrate the timeless legacy of Indian classical arts.

Conceptualising and co-curating *Saanidhya* alongside Astha Karlekar, Director SCZCC, has been not just creatively fulfilling but also a beautiful journey of rediscovery. Compering and witnessing the powerful Bharud performance by Shri Shekhar Niranjan Bhakre awakened a deep sense of childhood nostalgia within me. The early morning verses sung by my grandmother while grinding millet on the traditional hand grinder, the arrival of Vasudev at our doorstep, and those innocent questions to Nandi about rain and exams — all took me back to the golden days of life, where everything felt pure, beautiful, and new. Anchoring for such a remarkable Bharud artist also became a learning experience, enriching my understanding and appreciation of this profound folk art tradition. Grateful to be part of an evening that celebrated culture, memory, and heritage so beautifully.
