In the past few days, Cyclone Ditwah has struck a heavy blow to life along the Tamil Nadu – Puducherry coast — and its impact is being felt strongly in areas like Cuddalore, Puducherry, Karaikal, Chengalpattu and Villupuram.
Schools and colleges shut their doors, flights and travel plans were disrupted, and streets turned into waterlogged lanes — making daily life chaotic. Heavy rains and strong winds from Cyclone Ditwah caused flooding, uprooted trees and made roads impassable, often leaving people stranded. For many households, the cyclone uprooted livelihoods: crops and farms were damaged, fishing was halted, and salt-pan and coastal workers lost income as sea conditions grew dangerous.
In coastal and low-lying zones, high tides and continuous rain created flooding risks — people had to leave their homes temporarily, and many faced power cuts and disrupted essential services. For children, elders and daily-wage labourers, the day-to-day routine turned uncertain.
As we stand together in these challenging times, let’s support our communities — help where we can, look out for neighbours, and stay safe. If you can, share verified info about shelters, relief camps or safe-zones.
