dhenur dhātrī tathā pṛthvī
saptaītā mātaraḥ smṛtāḥ

According to scriptures, there are seven mothers:

1️⃣ The real mother
2️⃣ The wife of the spiritual master
3️⃣ The wife of a brāhmaṇa
4️⃣ The wife of the king
5️⃣ The cow 🐄
6️⃣ The nurse
7️⃣ The earth 🌍

“All of them are mothers.”

And Śrīmatī Devakī is the real mother of Lord Kṛṣṇa. But in spite of this, all other stepmothers were equally affectionate to Him.

Lord Kṛṣṇa also did not distinguish His real mother from His stepmothers, and He equally offered His obeisances unto all the wives of Vasudeva present on the occasion. 🧘

Today is the auspicious appearance day of Śrī Hanumān.

Śrī Hanumān is one of the most revered personalities in the Vedic tradition, celebrated especially in the Rāmāyaṇa as the devoted servant of Lord Śrī Rāma. He is understood to be an incarnation of Lord Śiva and the son of Vāyu, the wind-god, which accounts for his immense strength, speed, and vitality.

Hanumān’s character exemplifies dāsya-bhakti—pure devotional service. His life is defined not by personal ambition, but by unwavering dedication to Rāma. He plays a central role in the Rāmāyaṇa, most notably in locating Mother Sītā in Laṅkā, delivering Rāma’s message to Her, and assisting in the battle against the demon king Rāvaṇa.

He is renowned for extraordinary abilities—such as leaping across the ocean, changing his size at will, and exhibiting unmatched courage—but these are always portrayed as secondary to his humility and devotion. In many traditions, Hanumān is also worshipped as a symbol of strength, loyalty, wisdom, and selfless service.

Thus, Śrī Hanumān stands as an eternal exemplar of devotion, humility, and spiritual strength within the Vedic canon.
