THE POSITIVE EXPANSE OF ART
We believe that major art practices flourish in what are referred to as the hinterland. Cut off from the mainstream, for the lack of opportunities they have to either shift to big cities where their art many times loses its edge and innocence or then gets lost altogether to time. Our emphasis is to create a space where interactions close to home make them integrate bet
ter with the global art stream. This in turn allows for the spread and dissemination of art to a much larger, expansive group of society. This we have seen from our own home’s experience. In Bihar, in and around Patna were some of the finest intellect flourishing in the first millennia. Wedded to art, the smelters and workshops must have bounded by artists whose fame spread through their Art across Asia. Evidence of that still reflective in the artistic tradition of Asia and then to places around the world. There is a renewed interest in the art from countries like India and China. We feel that through the multiplicity of shows in galleries across India. The autumn / winter months particularly dazzle with works of Indian and international artists in India. The success of the India Art Fair and the Kochi Biennale is an evidence of the fact. SoilBite would like to benefit from this global integration of ‘our Art and their Art’. A number of curators and galleries visit India in this period and we would like to invite them to Patna to see what SoilBite has created. It will be an affirmation for each one of us if over time, SoilBite becomes a movement by itself. A platform brimming with positivity and hope — aasha. Through art and its positive manifestations for the society. It must be noted that SoilBite aims to create an international exchange program which can hope to organise both small and big residencies in other centres apart from Patna and also seek avenues and spaces internationally for a global exchange of ideas and art.
