जनतंत्र समाज बिहार जनतंतंत्र समाज / सिटीजन फॉर डेमोक्रेस? Citizen's for Democracy or Jantantra Samaj, is a non-party organization for defending and strengthening democracy.

After the formation of Bangladesh, JP found that the electoral process in Indian politics was being vitiated by huge induction of money and use of brute force. He felt alarmed and setup the Citizens for democracy in 1973. These days Kuldip Nayar is the national President of

Aims & Objects

The Society will strive to bring together all those who cherish de

mocratic values in all spheres of life-social political and economic- and take active steps to preserve defend strengthen democracy. It shall not be a political party nor will it be a supporter or opponent of any political party It will strive to guide public opinion to propagating rational and constructive views so as to counteract demagogic and sectarial appeals. With this end in view it will take ceaseless action :

(a) To develop a public movement of active intolerance of all forms of corruption in public affairs. (b) To educate the people in the principles of democracy and the develop a discriminating and independent and independent public opinion undertaking an examination of these issues from a democratic and rational point of view unaffected by sectional, and by propagating the conclusion. (c) To secure recognition to the right of public dissent and generally to defend civil liberties. (d) To ensure independence of the press and other mass media like radio and television. (e) To ensure independence of the judiciary. (f) To bring about electoral reform and in particular prevent elections from being contested on the strength of huge be entitled to be an office bearer of the society or of any branch thereof. Any person intending to be a member shall make an application in writing in the form prescribed by the executive council and shall pay regularly such annual fee as may be fixed by the Executive council form time to time. The executive council may approve or reject his application. "Explanation: Office bearer in this clause includes member of any Executive committee of a political party or of this society as the case may be"

Executive Council

(i) The Executive council will consists of not less than seven and not more than seventy five members to be elected at the general meeting. In addition, all the presidents and general secretaries of the state units of society will be ex-officio members of the Executive council. The Executive council will have the power to co-opt additional members on the council. (ii) The Executive Council will appoint 1 President, 2 Vice Presidents, General Secretary, Executive Secretary and Treasurer As Office Bearers from among its members as it deems fit. (iii) The Executive Council will be generally responsible for the fulfillment of the objectives of the organization through such policies and measures as it may consider necessary. (iv) The Executive Council will meet as often as may be necessary. It may transact business through circulars. State, Regional and Local units: Members in a state , region or locality may with the approval of the Council ,Set up state ,Regional and local units of the Society. They will have such representation in the general meeting as may be decided by the Executive council. contact Mobile
